SURPRISE!

Yet how many posters on here respond to someone who is having a problem tractor by recommending selling their problem to an unknowing buyer. Not much different that returning bad goods to Walmart for a credit.

I bought someone else’s problem, that’s bad. I unloaded my problem, that’s good?

Some people need to look in a mirror.

Absolutely agree. If I were to sell something used that has a problem and I didn't disclose it... Well, that's simply being fraudulent and dishonest.
To do that would mean I would have no pride, no honor, and my parents would be ashamed of raising such a son.

I like to think that most people in our country feel the same. My rural neighbors certainly do.

Sure there are exceptions, but one bad egg doesn't ruin the clutch.

Just bought a dethatcher from Blaine's online that they shipped to my house. Thought it seemed like a lot of tape on the box, probably shipping insurance. Nope, missing half the hardware. Took it to store that now had it in stock, exchanged, and they refunded original shipping.

Last year, remodeling basement, buying LED can lights, 6 of the $40 boxes at Menards had the $13 lights in them. The guy working the desk seemed real annoyed. Glad my wife and I were interested in just how they looked and opened the first one.

Apples to oranges.
We aren’t suggesting they sell it by pretending it’s a new tractor. I sold my last Kubota for $2900 or some such price. Anybody could tell just looking at it that it wasn’t a brand new $16,000 tractor.

Wouldn't a used oil filter leak oil all over and make the box an oily mess? Who would go to the trouble of returning a used filter to save the $6?
The same people that open a candy bar while walking around a big box store and throw the wrapper away. The same people that throw garbage out their car window like beer cans, used needles, and fast food packaging. First hand experienced from rural country.

"Human debris" as one radio guy used to say...

I always open the filter in the store to make sure it matches the box, this after the cashier did it for me and when I asked why she stated that people take the expensive filters and put them in a cheapo filter box and attempt to purchase it.
Happened to me at Walmart, my car requires a high pressure filter ($9) and some scumbag put a low pressure ($7) filter in the HP filter box. He apparently thought that saving two bucks was a fair trade for trashing some strangers engine.....

Years ago one of the grocery stores had a box so that you could toss a nickel in and sample a piece of wrapped candy. I had just put a piece in my mouth when some woman walked up, made a smart aleck comment about it not being free and walked away.
I was in the right but still haven't forgotten being called a thief.

Walmart will not take the time to inspect returned items, thus it goes back on the shelf.

Few years ago I had purchased an 8-foot florescent fixture from a "big" box home improvement store. Opened it and lo & behold literally half the components were missing.

So I return it, and told customer service exactly what the reason was. Went back to the electrical aisle to get another fixture, and (you guessed it!) along comes a staffer with the fixture I just returned, and they put it right back on the shelf!!

Have done my best to avoid any "homeowner grade" store since.

I've had that happen more than once with power tools at Home Depot, printer ink (when we had an ink jet printer) at Walmart and various stuff at other big box stores.

I do recall standing in line behind someone trying to return an old beat up drill to HD back in 1997 when I was building my house. HD denied the return, said they never dolfd that model. The man trying to return it got very upset with them.

I remember a couple guys who would 'short dip' the oil and shove an empty can on the spout and 'add a quart'. Charge the customer for a quart.
This was back when there were Real Service Stations. It's the people these days..............

Plenty of YouTube videos of oil change places still ripping off people

When I had oil change places doing it, Valvoline shops where you sit in the vehicle would clearly demonstrate the draining, filling and showing you your dipstick of clean oil.

However, the question in my mind was, what brand did they put in and was it really 10W30 at that time.

I saw the same thing at Sears, back when it was worth shopping there. A woman was trying to return a pair of jeans, a brand which I had only seen at Walmart. She had "Received them as a gift and this is where they came from." I've always wished I had spoken up as she berated the clerk and slammed the store. It was obvious she knew she was trying to pull one over on them.

It is happening everywhere and all the time. My son recently ordered a $60 electronics item from a 'new' internet seller on Amazon. As he was not confident, he used a 'gift' card to do the purchase...one to make sure that if scammed, they could only withdraw the max amount on the card, and two, Amazon is fairly good at backing up bogus purchases. What he received, in a very small box, was a shower cap, in a bag, in a box. He took photos of the whole deal and forwarded it to Amazon. He got his credit, and the 'seller' is no longer on Amazon, well, at least not now by the old name.

There needs to be a simpler way to weed out China vendors or other bad actors. Wife ordered me some butter cookies for Christmas a couple of years ago and didn't notice they were coming from China. Several months after Christmas, a very small envelope arrived with about a tablespoon of cookie crumbs. This was a $30 order and pictured a large bag of cookies.

We are much more aware these days.

What I would really like to see, and wonder if others would as well. Web stores have all sorts of 'sort' options, such as price, color, size, etc. I would like to see an option selection on all web store fronts "CERTIFIED MADE IN THE USA ITEM". I would gladly pay extra for that peace of mind! They all think that we only want to buy by price alone. I slowly weed my way through purchase options, looking specifically for "Made in the USA". And, if I purchase and receive a misrepresented item, I return as "not what I ordered" and if there is an option for the reason include that it was not "Made in USA." Maybe someday, vendors might get the hint, and maybe some production will return to our shores. There are a few web sites that will list where you can buy 'Made in the USA' items, but places like Amazon, Wal-Mart, etc could do a real favor and allow us to decide what we want.

I was a mechanic for 30 years. We'd get used spark plugs delivered all the time. It was usually at end of the day when customer needed their car.
The parts store probably did that to get back at you for ordering late in the day!

I would like to see country of origin on everything I buy, but don't see it happening.

In spring 2020 I ordered (2) aftermarket 6ah Dewalt batteries for a seemingly good price. It wasn't until they put a hold on my PayPal account that I discovered they were from a Chinese country, it was in Chinese. (Mandarin?) I never heard another word from them, no order confirmation, estimated delivery date or anything; but a few weeks later the batteries arrived. Yet they never completed the payment process so I ended up getting two free batteries.

Was changing the oil in a nephew's car and he had picked up some Mobil 1 oil and a Mobil 1 filter at Walmart. Everything went well until we pulled the "new" oil filter out of the box. We found a used filter in the box.

Open those boxes and double check.... Car will now sit on the lift and after work today when he will return my car with a new filter in hand.
And when you go to take it back, they will think that you are the scammer.

Same thing happened to me with a $56 bottle of Rotella T6. I had the truck all drained out and was going to put in the new oil, opened the screw lid with no click... hmm... then the foil looked a little janky (because it was regular tin foil glued to the bottle) and I found 2.5 gallons of used oil. WalMart return scam. Dang!
Your post reminded me of a YT video from a Kubota dealer where they bought a used tractor and found a piece of that oil jug tinfoil inside the engine which seized the engine. One little piece.
