RRacing,

Does the special edition X seat have a real suspension mechanism, i.e., something that dampens movement (like a shock absorber) instead of just springs?

The seat I had on my Case IH had a dampening suspension so you didn't just bounce around when the ground got rough.

The seat tracks on my 4110 are 7-7/8" center to center. Can you measure the tracks on yours to see if they are the same?

Thanks,
Ira

Yes the seat has a full suspension and is weight adjustable. I used the 2210 seat tracks that sound like the same width. I just mounted the seat from the piviot pin. It was much easier and it doesnt sit as high doing it that way. Take a close look at the seat and if its what your looking for I'll give you all the details. I had mine mounted in less than a half hour.

Stopped by the local JD dealer yesterday. The special edition seat sells for $440 (list price?). There is also a kit ($110) that is used if installing the seat on a non-special edition tractor. Don't know if this is necessary or not.

The dealer had a 2210 on the lot. I didn't write it down, but I think the seat rails on the 2210 are about 6.5 inches center to center. Definitely less than the 4110. The mounting area on the 2210 is also a lot more open and flat than on the 4110.

I have attached a picture of the seat mounting area of the 4110. The seat is in its forward-most position, and the bottom of the picture is towards the rear of the tractor.

Unlike the 2210, the 4110 bottom rails are bolted into shallow C channels that are welded onto the bracket that is bolted to the tractor itself. The right end of the tape is hooked over the outside edge of a bottom seat rail. At about 8.5 inches on the tape, on the bottom side, you can see about half of one of the bolt heads of a bolt used to mount the bottom seat rail to the bracket. There are four such bolts, one at each end of the two seat rails. The C channel is about 2.75 inches wide and 3/8 inches deep. One of the edges is at the two inch mark. Two of the bolts that hold the mounting bracket to the tractor are just below the tape at three and six inches. The two front bolts are on legs that go down a few inches near the front of the seat area. Also note near the upper right corner of the picture that the seat belt attaches to the frame of the seat rather than to the tractor.

The bad thing is that there is a "black box" that sits between the C channels. The top of it is higher than the rear part of the mounting bracket, which is why the C channels are raised about an inch.

I think what would have to be done is to make up a couple of adapters that span the C channels and bolt in where the bottom seat rails do. Also, the adapters would need spacers on each end to make up for the depth of the C channel. The adapters would be drilled to accept bolts for the new seat rails which would hopefully fall between the C channels. However, my guess is that the new seat rails are wide enough such that they will land partially on the C channels which will make it difficult to bolt things together.

RRacer...can you post a similar picture or two of the underside of your special edition seat on your 2210 that shows how it all bolts together? What's the center-to-center distance on the seat rails? Also, it looks like the seat sits pretty high (10 inches from top of cushion to bottom of rails?) when unoccupied. How much does it drop when you sit in it?

Thanks,
Ira

I installed the special edition seat on my 2210 with the help of RRacer. Here's the directions he sent me, I’m not sure how a 4110 seat setup is but maybe this will help.

You need the 2 mounting brackets that bolt to the bottom of the X seat and the 4 mounting bolts. On the front edge of those brackets there is a 5/16 hole were a pivot pin goes thru( the pin that the seat folds forward on)you need to open those holes to 3/8 with a drill this will allow you to use the 2210 pivot pin to mount the seat. You will need 2 spacers that if memory serves my right have a 3/8 hole and a 3/4 O.D. and are 1.25 or 1 1/4 long. you will need 2 other spacers same I.D. and O.D. or you could just use washers that are near 3/4 long. The short spacers go between the seat brackets and the 2210 mounting brackets. The longer spacers go between the 2210 brackets and keep the pin from sliding back and forth.

IRA.

I used the existing seat mounting rails . Why change what already works? The Special edition seat has 2 sets of mounting holes for its brackets. If memory serves me right 1 set is about 7 1/2 inches wide and the other around 9 inches. I kept every thing the same but used the stock seat pivot pin to mount the seat. Why make more work than nessary? You only need the seat and the 2 mounting brackets that bolt to the seat itself with those bolts. Drill out the mounting plates if your seat has a larger pivot pin like the 2210 does. and make up a few spacers to take up any side play. its really easy to mount if you leave your existing seat rails alone.

I hope this makes sence to you.If not I will see if I can bum a camera to give you a better idea what I'm talking about.

LObo thanks for the directions!!! I'm sure I would have never found them again,LOL. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
