( The 15w40 has been used in diesel for years without a problem. The SAE 20, 40 10w-30 and 10w-40 would be fine if using dino. I would not use a dino 15w-40 since the pumping point would be too high. )

So 15W-40 is thicker than the others mentioned? I am going synth to get it to turn over better in the winter. Is this sufficient for all year round in a BX2200? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

What's your owner's manual say to use?

The Series 3000 is a 5W-30 oil. Here is what gsxr1100 said about the 5W-30 and 15W-40 a few posts back:
"Well for starts the pour point of Series 3000 is –60 F and 15w-40 DD&M is like –47 F. So that is really about –40F and –27 F pumping Temp."
15W-40 dino would be thicker, but a a good syn oil works over a much broader temp range.
Now, it does get down to -27 F here in VT sometimes, so I am using the 5W-30

( I hear ya. The only reason why I personally like Amsoil is that for the price and what you get, it is hard to beat. There are better oils out there, but the price is huge when compared.

Redline is really good oil but their price is more then Amsoil’s. LE is a good oil, but I am not paying a synthetic oil price for a dino oil. Mobil is not up to snuff and Shell is too much a dino. Royal purple is ok, but again a high price and there additives are about the same as Mobil’s or below. So dollar-for-dollar, Amsoil to me is the best out there to date. Show me better oil and I am there.

I admire your open mindedness and attention to detail. I have to admit that anything sold in a pyramid scheme (er, excuse me, I mean "direct marketing") puts me off in the first place, no matter how good the product may be. Currently, I use Mobil 1 because it is way better than dino oil, is reasonably priced for synthetic (and frequently on sale), and most importantly it is available everywhere when I'm on the road.

Well, it says 10W-30 or 10W-40, but since GSXR uses 15W-40 and knows more about oil than I know about anything, I ordered the Amsoil 15W-40. But then I read my book, and now I am a bit nervous about those numbers being different.

Of course, I really don't understand what the numbers mean, so I'm looking to hear GSXR tell me that 15W-40 is ok in the BX2200 even though it calls for something else because... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

According to gsxr's profile, he has a BX22 and he uses 15w-40, so it must be OK. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I used to work for a store that had an amsoil dealership. The owner and I did a flow comparison by placing 10w30 amsoil in a freezer along with mobile 10w30 (dino). Freezer was set at --25. The synthetic flowed vey easy at this temp. but dino oil did not. Also Amsoil was one of the first to produce synthetic oil for retail.

if it gets to -27, I would use the 5w30 since its pour point is integral to it pumping temp. You would be right on the line with the 15w-40 here.

I know SP, most people dislike MLM's but there are more then you know. Bose, weber grills etc. Even the huge corporation I work for doing military & commercial engines/controlls and the space suit is the same way. We only go through certain supplies for eveything down to a mouse; hence more $$$.

The marketing ways are also a good way to control your product. It prevents everyone and anyone from selling your product.

that being said yes mobil is a good oil if doing OCI. It that is your bag, then it is a good oil. For me, I do not care if I have to order it and wait 7 to 10 days for parts. Example, my R/c heli is from Germany and it takes about 2 to 3 weeks to order and receive parts. Good things are not easy to come by! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

the 10-30, 10-40 , sae 30 etc are there for temp reasons. If you are using dino oil at 0 degree F, these oils would work fine (so to speak) and a dino 15w-40 would be way too thick.

Now "throwing a wrench into the pot" synthetics are a different world. Using their synthetic 15w-40 which point point is -47 F you will be fine.

Unless you get to about -25 F, you will be fine with their 15w-40. Try this put a qt of synthetic outside & a qt of dino oil outside at some temp & same weight oil. Even a dino SAE 30 will not hold up to their synthetic at 0 degrees.

So you will be fine with the AME in your neck of the woods. Been using it since 96 and works fine. If the temps get very low worry about fuel before a synthetic. I would not use a dino in these low temps, but that is me.

Also the manual Kubota states the same oil weight for temps from 77 f to 32 f. So there do not even address low temp oils.
