I just bought a used motor home and now they are charging $77. JUST TO TRANSFER THE TITLE! I wonder how much that is per keyboard key pushed.
She told me if I didn't have a tag (I had one from vehicle that I just sold) that just the cost of the tag was now $28. What happened to prisoners making licence tags?

In Colorado there are two additional fun things: there is no (real) non-op condition, as the license fees are really the last vestige of personal property tax (that lets you take them off of your federal income tax), part of that 'you might get what you asked for' thing; due to an approved (voter as I recall) creation of a 'roads and bridges' tax, trailer and vehicle taxed go up ~$15-$45 per vehicle each year (2009-2011).

It's interesting to learn what anything costs in other places, but please keep in mind that politics is a prohibited topic on Tractorbynet, so please just tell what it costs; not what you think of the politicians.

In Az the actual tag is about $6.50 but they hit you with the advolorem fee which was over $500 on my 07 avalanche and 06 F250.

Trailers have all kinds of possibilities based on personal or business use. My 12,000 horse trailer could have been around $250 a year or a one time fee of $800 I took the one time fee.

I pay about $250 or so in NC for my "weighted" tag. Vehicle is a 99 F250 and is tagged for 16,000.

No one has yet mentioned the Virginia Personal Property tax on vehicles, so I will chime in...
Virginia taxes personal property at NADA blue book value annually. I think it is right around 4% or so. Cost me roughly $1,000 last year for tax and $65 for actual tags for my '06 Dodge 2500. Since it is registered for 10k gross, it does not get a tax rebate like vehicles less than 8k gross. Now my '02 Ranger was around $100 tax and $65 tags... Makes one wonder where the money is being used. My gravel road has potholes approaching the size of an old VW beetle....

Adding to dangier_VA quote. Each Virginia county has a different percentage for personal property taxes. I'm in the military and live in Suxxex Co., with my home of record of Martinsville, VA. Sussex rates are almost twice the amount of Martinsiville, so I claim my home of record as Martinsville and save hundreds per year. Dangier can you change your registration to the actual weight of your cummins, it would save you some serious tax dollars.

In Michigan - just got my renewal.....$156 for an 06 F-350 4X4 dually diesel.

Trailer plates are "permanent"....one time fee. Just paid $75 for my new 16' dual axle carhauler, but had to pay $215 for the 30' gooseneck....which weighs #7600. (fees go by weight)

Not so bad compared to some others I see.
Now I just have to keep my MI plates when I move to ....sssssshhhhhhhh.......

Many years ago, Texas registration fees were simply based on weight, and were easy to calculate. But as everything else got more complex and complicated, so did those fees. But now you can see what the fees are at this website.

23 years ago I bought my then 10 year old 1987 Samurai for $1,050... it's been a real workhorse and except for battery purchases and one set of tires has needed nothing.

Paid $217 this morning for tags with required Smog Inspection on my now 33 year old Sammy and now good for another 12 months.

I waited for the Smog Inspection and while on Dynamometer at speed the mechanic mistakenly tried to "Shift" grabbing the transfer case lever instead of the gearshift... the sound of grinding gears was excruciating... (Rear wheels running at 40 mph and the front stationary)

Shop said let them know if any problem shows up... I carefully felt the teeth and didn't notice and chipped or missing one.

So no harm, no foul?

Shop owner has been doing inspection for 35 years... but hasn't had a stick on the dyno this year...

Tag Fee without inspection on the 1987 Suzuki is now $139.00 This about the cheapest possible.

At one time I had 24 vehicle tagged but now down to 3... the rest are non-op registered for a one time $22 fee not to drive.

If vehicle is delinquent back fees and steep penalties capped at 3 years arrearage... sometimes in means an older vehicle is donated because the delinquent can easily be over a grand.

I don’t remember the exact numbers but trailer tags went from something like $40 to a $140 here in Illinois. Cars and light trucks are $151. 3 vehicles and a trailer add up.
