Spreader Tailgate spreader experience?

We need to spread (pelletized) lime on our ~ 6 acre pasture, but it's been too weet this year to get a lime truck access to most of the areas.

So I was looking at the 3pth cone type fertilizer spreader, but I'd have to build a platform to rasie the lime pallet up to load the cone.

I've seen some snow-plowing pickups use a tailgate spreader (e.g. Buyers or Meyer Mate Tailgate Spreader, Model# 38000) and wondered if anyone tried to spread lime and fertilizer with that?

What brand worked well, if any?

There was just a post on the quality whitetails site (qdma.com) about this. The guy walked along with the pickup turning the handle as his wife drove the truck. Claimed it worked very well....and recommended it to others. Did not mention a brand.

OOOPS.....sorry. I misread your post....or still had the other topic in my mind (??). The product I was commenting on was one of those unloading mats you intall in the bed of a pickup truck. You were asking about a tailgate spreader. Duh

not sure how much material you have to spread?? and if this is a one time thing. I would think you could rent a spreader if it is one time. Couldn't you either just shovel load it or use the bucket on your tractor to load?? just load one side of the bucket to dump into spreader.
