One of engines on the east end of our district a while back. Van on fire, on freeway next to wildland. Someone from the group in the van took video.

I get voted in this coming Monday. There should be no problems with that. All the volunteers seem to like me and I have a good name in the community. And comes the process of my physical, waiting for my ID, beginning classes, etc.

Kyle

Great!

Well, there's been lots of changes to requirements and everything so there was a lot of delay on my history check and physical and all that good stuff. I got voted in last night, which was the first day of my EMT class, and responded to my first call today. It was a brush fire we had been to earlier while I was in class, that flared up again once I got back to the station. I was literally climbing into my trcuk when the walk in came and told me there was a fire down the road, so I let a driver know and off we went in the brush truck and met the tanker on scene. Now I have EMT class M-F 8am-4pm until July 20th. I will take VRS in July most likely, along with in station training and some other things. My Fire Fighter 1 class starts August 6th and runs until August 25th M-Saturday 8am-3pm. I plan on taking FF2, HazMat, EVOC, and possibly Paramedic as they come. Thanks again for y'all's support. I will keep up with more info as it comes to me.

Awesome! EMT classes around here are a 7 unit semester class at the local Junior colleges.

Have numerous friends who are full time FF's. Paramedic was at least a year long process between classes, ER time, and Medic unit time. And, it was expensive... If you want to go full time FF though, many districts are requiring it.

Yep, it is a long process and the lowest on my list but you never know how it may be needed.

And there's lots of ways to take this EMT class. They are all 8 units, but this is the advanced class. Most have just a couple evenings a week for about 5 months, and mine is covered in 3.5 weeks.

I'm an industrial firefighter/EMT, Battalion Chief, Hazmat tech., confined space rescue tech., and high angle rescue tech., been in this service for most of 20 years and it is still fun.

Yes, when I took mine in '99, it was a semester class at the local JC, two nights a week. It is still that format, but is 7 units now(here in N. Calif). In fact, a couple of weeks ago I was asst BLS CPR instructor, with the guy that is still the lab instructor for EMT.

I just finished recert; 24 hours of online CE's, and the practical test with Paramedic in my district.

That is pretty sweet!. I have drill tonight, and I think I'll print off the pictures to show the others in the battalion.

From today. 4th of July parade, Pollock Pines, Ca. Earlier this morning, had a big pancake breakfast at the firehouse. Flipped so many pancakes my arm is sore :D

The front engine E217 is from our station in Pollock Pines. The second engine E225 is a second out, from Placerville; it was originally at the primary station I respond to in Shingle Springs. Then there is a USFS engine, and then the Water Tender from our station in Pollock.

Fun day!Pollock 4th.jpg
