Murph,
I understand your point and agree biased reviews are a potential problem. However, for a newbie to the site who wants to orient themselves, it would be very useful to have a few reviews of each tractor to peruse. Another example would be someone who has only heard a dealers perspective and wants to hear what owners say about a particular model. Of course there will be bias but that is not a sufficient reason to withhold the information.
I think a redesign should be done to capture important information that will enable the reader to judge how valid the review is. I don't want to see uncritical rave reviews either. I think only owners should be allowed to post reviews to avoid some of the relatively uninformed posts that come from either shoppers or color war participants. Perhaps even a mandatory "cooling off period" for enthusiastic new owners so posts were done after six months use or 50 hours or whatever. Standard questions like how long have you owned it, how many tractors before this one, how many hours, what uses etc would all be useful things to have in a review. It would also be important to allow the original author to update the same review even years after posting to reflect added experience.
I think a well thought out review section with appropriate moderation (the moderators already are supposed to screen all reviews before posting) would be a benefit to the TBN community. I dare say it would even cut down on color wars as people could be referred to the review section rather than starting yet another of the "what's the best tractor brand" threads with the inevitable opinion battles that follow.
