Before completing the survey I quickly checked if there is a thread about it and look what I found. A thread.
I'd say no harm in doing it. It probably helps them sell more adds on the site. Many retailers are doing the same.

I thought the survey tasteful and reasonable..... small pay for the value I've gotten from the site. I trusted the comments re anonymity, realizing that NOTHING is truly anonymous anymore.

Problems I had with the survey: I have 3 tractors, 19 hp, 65 hp, 108 hp. All have a use. Which is the primary? Used the one that gets the most hours (BX22), but it's not the most important. All the questions about the dealer: BX was bought new from dealer so used that one in the survey since there was no other option. Other two were bought from private parties. Income question to me was not a problem.

Several gaps in the logic in the survey.

I do DIY projects constantly, monthly is nor representative.

I didn't purchase any implements with my tractor I bought them all aftermarket.

I didn't use a dealer at all. Moot point asking.

Features at my farm. You didn't ask about things that would let you know how busy I am with the implements and tools that I have. ie; how often am I likely to replace them.

The thing where you might have tractor data on your site sounds awesome. I would love to have more specific data about various machines in a friendly environment like this. If I do want to shop for another tractor it would help me to have details of which ones fit the bill. But, I hope you cover at least 30 years of history, if possible.

About the people concerned with the security.

Please quit worrying about online security. Everything you do on the internet is tracked by your IP address. Every site you surf, every e-mail, instant message and everything else is tracked and trackable.

Try to not worry about it. Sometimes it's a good thing that they are tracking. Might actually stop some something bad once in a while.

That struck me also. I have 2 tractors and felt like I needed to pick one for the survey. Even though I don't think that it is representative of my general tractor use. Often one is used for a need the other can not do well. That is why I have two. I think the survey would have a better representation of use, at least mine, if there was an option for owners of several tractors to respond over several of the answer options offered.

While this is true, I can assure you that the survey responses are in no way linked to any tracking device. :thumbsup:

...Everything you do on the internet is tracked by your IP address...

not exactly...the only way anyone (or any other computer) can connect any given IP address to an individual is if your ISP wants to give it to them (usually only done by subpoena)...

internet cookies sometimes use IP addresses for things like "keep me logged in" etc... or keep you from voting twice on the same polls etc...but not all cookies use IP addresses

The way computers communicate with each other across most networks is via IP...each computer (or node) must have a unique identity so whatever is requested can be served...i.e., [example] whenever a link is clicked...the browser sends a "request" to the server...if the request did not include a return IP address...the server would not know what computer to send the file(s) to...so you could view the web page, picture etc...

Most ISPs use a system (DHCP, or PPoE) in which their servers assign an IP address to your cable or DSL modem etc...if you re-set your modem 99.9% of the time your IP address will change...back in the days of dial-up...your ip address changed every time you dialed in)...now days if you want to change your (modems) IP address just reset your modem...

...because the modem only has one IP address is why a router is needed if you have more than one computer connected ...the router has its own DHCP server that assigns each computer their own (sub) IP address...
...regardless of how many computers you have connected to the internet...all the rest of the world sees is the IP of the modem...not the individual computers IP address.

if you don't liked being "tracked"...I suggest turning off cookies...or at least 3rd party cookies...

just to be noted...each ethernet adapter whether it's wired or wireless...has another type of unique identifier that never changes and can be used to isolate any single computer on a network...it's called a MAC address (nothing to do with Apple)...this identifier is hard coded into a chp that is acomponent of the network adapter...unless you are running a very old unsecure system it is very unlikely that anyone outside of your local network can ever obtain your MAC address...

That is not identifying anything other than browser traits...it in no way identifies a person...get the facts...

also it mentions nothing about having "scripting" turned off...

FYI...if you've ever bought anything from Amazon...they know more about you than you would think...likewise with Google...they track every search you make...

All that article says is the more you customize your PC with settings, programs, etc... the more unique you end up making it, which makes it easier to identify or distinguish from other similar machines once someone gains access to it. Kinda like robbing a bank in a pink Cadillac. If the cops find a pink caddy in your garage, you are more likely the suspect.

Now, not directing this comment at anyone in particular.... but really, some of you folks are making waaayyyy too much out of a simple survey to find out your likes, dislikes, trends, etc... on a tractor board! Having been a member here for about 9 years, I have to say I am surprised at some of you.

There was nothing requested in that survey that made me uncomfortable about putting the responses in the public domain (if that is where they end up). I have nothing to hide and if anyone is that interested in those broad details of my existance, their life is about as exciting as mine.
