Re: TC 24D with hole in the oil pan more pictures

I was finally able to take a look at my front drive shaft last night. Wow, is that sucker close. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif When someone else said 1/8" I thought they were maybe exaggerating it a little bit - NOT!!!!. But the one thing I noticed. There is the indentation in the bottom of the oil pan that seems to be a little more pronounced then I've seen in most other oil pans (cars & pickups), do you think NH was thinking the drive shaft should have fallen in line with the indentation? It doesn't. My cover seemed tight, no signs of any scratches, rubs, or bangs though. Not even the assembly scratch others had mentioned, just a speck of brown where it looks like muddy water splashed up there. I'll certainly keep watching it though. I'm at almost 130 hours now. No problems other than the tire & mower deck falling off. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

There is one time to build something right, the first time. Sorry for your troubles and your disapointment.

George

I feel for you but I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as you've made yourself feel about it. From your pictures, it doesn't look like the tractor was split, but even if it was, splitting a tractor is no big deal. It is done every day on many tractors as it is required to get to many internal components. I suspect it isn't necessary to change an oil pan though. Also I wonder if you hit the front wheel drive shaft on something you were driving over. Some of the pictures make it seem like that might have been the case. You've had a few problems and New Holland has made them right. I've always had good luck with New Holland solving problems for me and if I was you I'd give them some latitude. The one thing that isn't clear is what were you doing with the tractor when these problems occured. Quite often what the tractor is doing is related to the problems that occur. I'm not saying that is true in this case, but it might have a bearing. When dealing with the New Holland rep try and be reasonable, stay calm and ask for reasonable things. They may not be likely to give you a new tractor since all the problems with yours have been rectified. A reasonable thing to ask for may be an extension of the warranty for the hours and lost time that you have had the tractor. Perhaps even ask for an entended warranty. My dealer who is a New Holland and Kubota dealer tells me that dealing with New Holland on these type of issues is much easier than dealing with Kubota. Stick with Blue, you'll be glad you did in the long run. BTW, New Holland did replace a tractor for me, but the problems were much worse and they could not repair them after several tries for the same problem. They all had to do with the computer and electrical system on a TN. I'm still a New Holland fan.

Good Luck, I understand how frustrating it can be.

I went in this morning and they got the shaft and the tractor is together. They are going to run it on the dyno for a while and I should get it back Monday. I talked to Jason Collins and he said he'd see if he can get me a warranty extention for the trouble I've had. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: TC 24D with hole in the oil pan more detail

Begott, glad to hear you are getting your tractor back soon. It sound like you have had the patience of a saint or is it more like you had no choice? I am starting to worry about the parts for my TC 24D. It took as I recall 4 weeks to get the a new hub and wheel to the point I am glad I had my Home Depot repair keep in business. I kind of wish I would have held on to the tractor this time. Service manager felt the JB Weld should hold but was a little worried about the drive shaft hitting it and causing it to leak again. Now it’s week 1 without my tractor and the work is starting to pileup.
Keep us posted if they do extend your warranty.

Re: TC 24D with hole in the oil pan more pictures

Jwstewar, my dealer’s service manager wants to know if there is a flat spot on the steel sleeve that encases the drive shaft. On my TC 24D the steel sleeve seems to have been ground down to increase the clearance between the oil pan and the drive shaft. The flat spot seems to line up with the bottom of the oil pan. If you and others that own TC 24D could check we would be most appreciative. The nearest TC 24D is about 120 miles away so he can’t get out to take a look. If it not flat from the manufacturing process then it has been hitting the oil pan from day one, suggesting that the tractor is not aligned straight. I personally think New Holland ground down the area to get the clearance they needed to accommodate the bigger engine in the small frame TC series tractor. Maybe some TC 18,21 owners can also check to see what the clearance on the oil pan is on their tractors.

Thank you in advance,
George

Just checked mine, ABSOLUTELY NO FLAT SPOT on my sleeve.

Re: TC 24D with hole in the oil pan more pictures

Sorry to hear of the drive shaft problems. Hope you are back in business soon.

Regards the drive shaft (to front wheels), on my Deere 4300 I think there is plenty of room, but I recently had some vines and long grasses wind up pretty tight around the shaft (from woods work and field mowing). At one place on the shaft there was a ball that about doubled the diameter of the shaft. If that were to occur with only an eighth inch clearance to the pan, I suspect it would force something to give (either shaft to bend or something else move). I would expect it would thump loudly or make some noise (but maybe not over the noise of the diesel engine). It took some work with limbers and utility knife to cut it all off.

Just passing it along for a "heads up".

Re: TC 24D with hole in the oil pan more pictures

beenthere . . . on the TC24D there is a sleeve that covers the rotating portion of the front drive shaft, that prevents anything from winding around it and doing what happened on your Deere. It also allows for the shaft to safely operate with only 1/8" clearance from the oilpan.

LAGEORGE had a problem where his shaft's sleeve broke free somehow and began to rotate, that seems to be the cause of the wear in his oilpan.

Checked my TC18 today........had a good ¾-1" clearance. Tried to snap a pic but the batteries were dead.....no spares /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
