Re: TC 24D with hole in the oil pan Pictures

In looking at your pictures, and looking at my tractor, I believe that the small scratch on the bottom of my tractor is probably from assembly. I can find no slop in my shaft.

I wonder if in addition to your shaft sleeve sliding off, if your shaft is also bent? However, the shaft sleeve, spinning with the shaft, might be enough to wear through the oil pan.

Also, you said the grease fitting is not on your shaft sleeve, that may have been knocked off the sleeve if it was spinning around with the drive shaft. However, I do not believe that grease fitting would have hit the bottom of the oil pan based on its placement high enough on shaft sleeve to hit something else.

Re: TC 24D with hole in the oil pan Pictures

I guess the question should be, how did it come loose and how long was it spinning against the oil pan. I will have to ask my dealer. If it came loose on my tractor it may come loose on yours too better grab hold of the sleeve and see if it moves, it should not.
Called New Holland yesterday and they opened a case number or was it they already had an open case on my tractor, not sure. I am guessing that I might have called them already or they have good records as to all the warranty work preformed on my tractor.

I remember when I was growing up, my dad had a Ford Pinto that was nothing but trouble. It got to the point where the dealer knew him by the sound of his voice over the phone. It sounds like NH is almost to that point with you. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Hope they do you right and make everything better!

Wow. I just went out to check my TC24. The shaft is really close to the oil pan. It appears my oilpan also has a scratch (Bob). I assume it's from installation too because the shaft still has it's paint on it. I have only 30 hours on mine though. I hope it works out for you George. I love my TC, but it does appear you got a trouble maker.

Re: TC 24D with hole in the oil pan more detail

spencer200, any luck with the serial number information your requested and I posted?

New Holland called my dealer and they were not too happy to hear from them. I told New Holland that my dealer has been great about the whole thing and always respond to my request. But I guess maybe they should have not just kept fixing the tractor instead maybe try to resolve my lemon tractor concerns. I think that is what New Holland was suggesting, that the local area manager should have met with me.
To make matter worse the diagnoses on my tractor is bad. The service manager said that they might have to break it apart and lift the engine out to replace the oil pan. Of course I said that was absurd and he then told me that they have had to do that way on many New Holland models. I really doubt that is the way the pan is supposed to be replaced but he is a veteran service manager whose also was a mechanic so I guess his analysis should be taken as fact.
I then called my salesperson that denied that is what would be needed and they have done this a bunch of times. I sure do hope he does not mean a bunch of times of these small tractors. He called me later to tell me they had the pan out. I found that puzzling to the point that I am going to pay them a visit later today. I did let them know that if they split that tractor they could keep it. I have already had to buy many screws, washers, and bolts to replace the ones they always lose on my driveway, dirt patch ect. I am very nervous of having them split a tractor and getting it all back together in factory condition. I can tell you that has not been in the case in previous repairs every time it comes back with less hardware.

So my wife is letting me give them a chance but she is ready to pull the plug on our ownership of this New Holland tractor. I really hope I do not have to go with a different color.

New Holland will you please listen to me. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yes I read all about your warranties. There have been alot of them. I would not let your wife pull the plug on New Holland tractors. They are good tractors and we have sold many without any major problems like yours. The dealer you have should go to bat for you now and try to get a resolution that works for all concerned. New Holland as a company wants you happy. Your dealer should be able to work something out with his district sales and service managers that works for all.

Your wife is more forgiving than mine. I think ownership of both the tractor & me would have ended by now. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Maybe somebody here with a service manual can look up oil pan replacement for you. Mine is due in next week (bought it on ebay).

I have had two warranty issues with my TC18 - 1 small oil leak in the rear end - seal replaced at my house (mobile tech). The second was a front hub that leaked. They first tried to replace a seal. After I got it back it still leaked. Turns out the hub was cracked. They replaced that.

Service has been prompt & professional. My only complaint is that it is a 45 minute drive each way to the dealer. I can't get there during business hours, so I have to drop off & pick up the machine after hours. I miss out on the face to face with the service manager.

Good luck. I hope New Holland gets you a new machine - you deserve it.

Out of curiosity, why don't you want a different brand?

If you can get New Holland to get you another tractor, don't forget to take all of your cool strobes with you. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: TC 24D with hole in the oil pan more detail

Hazmat, I think the small cassis New Holland’s are very powerful and capable tractors. They can lift more and looked to me like they are supposed to be more rugged. I don’t like the yellow seat and green blends in with the foliage. Orange has that big Japanese name on the side and all those WWII veterans in my neighborhood would give me hell. So even though my TC 24D is Japanese it is not really in your face. Parents always taught me to respect elders. Also I have heard their stories and respect their views.

PS: If I had to, I guess a JD 4115 would work. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

LAGEORGE . . . I'm a business owner and one of the things that I make sure of, when I am without equipment for no good reason is that someone else pays me for my for the time value of money that I lose, especially in an instance like this where you are financing your tractor. So if you are without the tractor, then NH should pick up the interest you incur OR they should provide you with a LOANER. Either is accpetable, but the free use of a loaner tractor would be preferred becuase you have equipment to use to accomplish what you need done. IT IS ALSO NOT AN UNREASONABLE POSITION TO REQUEST AN EXTENTION ON YOUR WARRANTY.

By the way, I grabbed and pulled and yanked on the sleeve on my front drive shaft and it is firmly in place, or at least is WAS before I started messing with it! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

As far as the TC24D being a capable small tractor, I did a lot of shopping and did not want to buy at TC24D when I started the shopping. But is a fine piece of equipment (as long as you don't get a lemon) and from what I saw, and what I drove, it is the best small frame tractor on the market right now. I'd hate to see New Holland screw this up and send you packing to some other brand, I've got equipment from NH, Kubota, Cub, Oliver and Deere in my garage and I have become a fairly rabid NH fan and my little tractor has become my favorite. This whole problem is now sitting in New Holland's corporate hands, and if they screw it up they deserve to lose a customer, I just hope it doesn't happen because you deserve better.
