TC40 w/ turn signal problems

   / TC40 w/ turn signal problems #11
If it's any more consolation, I had the same problem with my TC40DA (maybe 20 hours on it). Happened after a rain on a very wet morning. Dealer gave me a new turn switch to install, but I never did (cause the problem never recurred). And I now keep a tarp over it all the time.

I agree that this should NOT be ocurring AT ALL. These tractors should be made to take on any weather without such pidly malfunctions. Shame on NH.

That said, I really do like my tractor. It performs well and is a real joy to run.

Here is my suggestion if it will work for you. I hadn't had my tractor for 2 hours when I knocked my first turn signal light off with a 3/4" BJ Oak branch. They now reside in a box in the garage.

I had my first tractor for 14 years before this one w/o turn signals and I never felt the need for them. I still don't. I'm on a paved, but very rural county road though.

You can replace them with marine grade switches ( grease filled ).

Or use a water displacer.. or get a rubber cap for it.. some switches are made for the screw on rubber caps.

Appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to get back to the tractor for another two weeks (dang work keeps getting in the way of all the fun...ugh!) but I will plan on checking the relays as Jim suggest if the problem still exist upon my return.

As for the potential of water getting into one of the rocker switches, any suggestions on prevention or corrective action? Other than placing a tarp over the console (which I now plan to do), is there a way to prevent the water infiltration or a chance the problem will correct itself once the switch dries out?

Again...appreciate any thoughts or feedback. As a newbie tractor owner...I've spent many an enjoyable hour reading the post and threads on this forum and learned a great deal from all the knowledgeable members!

My TC 29 does it every so often after pressure washing it; no big deal; air hose blast solves the problem; a shot of lub helped also.

Really do appreciate everyone's responses and nice to find out (unfortunately) that other's have had a similar experience and can relate. I'm really curious now if the problem will have resolved itself when I can get back to the tractor in a few weeks. That is of course if it’ll ever stop raining in S.E. Texas!

I'm sure glad you posted this problem. If you hadn't, we would probably not know so many people have experienced something similar due to water in the switch. I sure have never seen this problem on my tractor and I was sending you on the wrong track to look at the flasher.

I'm afraid kossetx and I are on the same road here -- I had a BJ oak limb take one of mine off -- so I took the other off and they've both been sitting inside ever since -- I pretty much expected it ... should have taken 'em off in the first place.

Don't feel bad.. I've never had water in my switches either.. May be a dash setup thing.. depending on where the switches are oriented as to whether they can easilly get water in them.

I'll take some pics of the dash and IP the next time I'm able to get back to the tractor and post them as an FYI. If the problem turns out to be from the moisture and becomes a common occurrence, I might look at taking Kossetx and Mike's advice and just remove the signal lights all together. The tractor will only be used on my property with no need to get out on the paved access road. In the past, my neighbor has been kind enough to let me use his small JD to shred and I've almost made the mistake of breaking off one of his lights as I maneuvered around the trees. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before one of them goes anyway.

I'm not a big fan of disabling safety devices.. and flashers / blinkers are a safety device. if you are going to the trouble to strip them off.. I would think it would be -WAY- easier to swap in a waterproof switch.. just my 2 cents worth... otherwise.. the day you -need- to get out on the road.. perhaps in an emergency.. well.. you won't have blinkers... and tractors are seemingly hard enough to see on the road with blinkers... I'd rather not think of how hard they are to see without blinkers...
