TC40A Intermittent Start Issues

I had all kinds of problem with my TC-40. Did relays , cables, battery checked all the switches key switch . Mine was a combination of things . What finally fixed my issue was a new starter . And a new battery. Oh yeah o had to fix my glow plug relay . It wasn’t installed . Someone had removed it .

So in order to do this starter relay, I am ordering this ? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NF0ICSO/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Along with whatever connectors are needed?

Is regular 12g or 14g THHN adequate for the wiring?
So any Bosch style relay (30 or 40amp) will work, like the one you posted. You can purchase the relay connector for it with the attached pigtails or you can just use insulated .25" (quarter inch) freemale connectors like I did in the pic in post #2. I found that cleaner & easier....

Don't use THHN... It is residential house wiring wire... use something for automotive use like a Automotive GPT wire or a Automotive Cross Link Wire (TXL, GXL & SXL all meet the spec). Just make sure you are using an automotive grade wire... & you will be fine.

12 & / or 14 gauge is fine....

You also need to add an in-line fuse to the circuit... see the diagram @thclimer posted in post #3

I have everything to attempt the start relay, just haven’t gotten around to it. Do you happen to have the part number for that key switch you purchased?
I don’t know if it’s coincidence, but the tractor starts instantly every time when cold. It’s when I shut it off and try to start it again while still warm that it’s a pain to start.

Its an old thread but someone from NAPA with this part number might be able to help you out:

I just want to thank everyone who shared info and pointed me in the right direction. I finally got around to installing the new starting circuit last night and it worked like a charm. It was definitely easier than I had thought it would be. If I remember, I will snap a picture later to share.
