Does anybody know if the cupholder in this picture comes standard with a TC40d? I know this picture is of a TC40DA, but I thought I saw one on a TC40D also. If they are not standard issue, could one be ordered for the TC40D? Thanks.

I just recently purchased a 2003 TC40D and it has the exact same cupholder as in the picture.

The "D" model tractors all have a toolbox with the cupholder built into the lid. Did your tractor not come with one? I've never seen a deluxe model tractor without one. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

jinman,

Nope, no cup holder/toolbox. Now that I know where it goes, I do see two mounting holes there, but no holder/toolbox.

Is there a way to tell how old this particular tractor is? A serail number reference? The manual that they gave me with it has a date on the front cover of 10/00. I don't know if that is the manual that came with that tractor, but if it is, this thing is 3 yrs old. Looks brand new, except some faded plastic knobs, which I think I've seen on other "new" rigs. But with that sprayed on silver stuff from my other post (broken shift lever/HST range lever), I wonder if this thing just sat somewhere for a long time. Hmm...

What color is the running gear on your tractor. I think in late 2002 or early 2003, NH changed the running gear to black. If you tractor is black instead of dark grey, you have a recent model tractor. If it's grey, it could be three years old, but I seriously doubt it is.

On the toolbox, I'd bet they took it off to put on another tractor and forgot to put your's back on. I'd be all over the dealer about that one. I'd even question whether they did a pre-delivery inspection. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif That toolbox is part of what you paid for with the "D" option. Don't let him try to tell you it's not.

The toolbox isn't very big, but it's just big enough to carry the essential tools and it even has a removable tray inside for small things like lynch-pins and shearpins. It's as handy as a pocket on a shirt. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It's possible that someone removed it for easier ingress/egresss. There are times it gets in the way of my size 13 Redwings and I have thought about taking it off myself. Buy Jim is right - I carry a rag, pair of work gloves, various hitch pins and two adjustable wrenches in mine. The cupholder is great for water, but beer kind of foams up....

If yours isn't there, your really not missing much. I love my TC but in my opinion the so called NH deluxe tool box and cup holders leaves ALOT to be desired.
It just isn't suitable for a functional toolbox and the cup holder is not deep enough to hold any type of cup or water/soda bottle so that it won't tip over at the least little jostle.
Anyway, thats my opinion. I am very tempted to just remove mine and stick it in the shed. I can always bolt it back on and it would open up the floor plan a little more.

I agree with Mark. The stock toolbox is a pain in the behind and cans or cups quickly spill using it. Click on my link to see another way to handle both problems. My toolbox will handle more than a few tools.

Thanks, guys. I can see, Pineridge, that your mods are a vast improvement over stock, and I will probably at least build me a toolbox like the one you designed. As far as the cup holder, it may be poorly designed and the box too small for any real tools, but, dam-it, I want it! This is supposed to be a new tractor /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I at least want all the stock stuff, so I can decide /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You DO have a valid point. Get after that dealer of yours and I'm sure he will come through. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mark...try stuffing one of those foam can coolers into the cup holder spot. It works great. My coffee cup even slips right in ( travel type ) and is secure as can be. As for tools, I agree, but it holds my pins, a couple of tools, mini trauma kit, and some chain hooks. Maybe calling it a toolbox is a bit optimistic. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a couple of those, I will try it.

It is more like a glove box than a toolbox. I keep pretty much the same things in mine as you keep in yours.

It might not serve much purpose but I was thankful for it Monday when I sheared a bolt on the cutter 1/4 mile from my truck. Opened her up grabbed my shear bolt and two wrenches put the bolt in and I was back in business. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Find the right size cup and it fits in there just fine. I imagine your drink will spill on a tractor if you don’t have a lid on it; I particularly didn't have any problems with it Monday though. I even threw a bottle of water in the holder riding on rough terrain and it never fell out. It’s small but I like it, better than nothin to start with I guess. I would get on the dealer whether you want it or not. You paid for it and I bet you'll find it somewhat handy. And if not taker off!

So far I can fit in the compartment the following:
*In the tray:
-30 foot tape measure
-keys and a pack of shear bolts
-clip pins
-Still room for a few other little things
*In the bottom:
-Gloves and a rag
-Rubber mallet
-Two wrenchs and a 12" crescent wrench
-PTO Cover
-and also more room for a few other little field tools

All the room you really need for a few field tools. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you wanted some documentation I would print off the specifications from the New Holland website for the Operator Platform (here) before you go in and take it with you just in case they try and tell you different. It says right at the bottom "A standard toolbox is an added convenience, and a cup holder is also standard on all models except TC21DA and TC24DA)". Good luck and get it if you really want it.

I have much better things to be doing with what spare time I have, then trying to locate a special cup to fit into a poorly designed cup holder.
New Hollands thought and intentions are there, but the finished design just doesn't cut it for the average and everyday use. At least they tried.

Yeah at least they tried. Didn't mean to sound offensive if that's the way I sounded. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I was just trying to give another opinion and I respect yours.

Don't have a lot of free time on my hands as well. Having a baby coming in December, driveway to get built, 10 acres of growth consisting of brush and field to currently keep knocked down, trees to cut with piles of firewood to get moved out of the way for the driveway, field tile to be installed in low wet areas, electric to get ran, basement, house, septic, and has to be done, at least the house built by the end of next year. And I can only get the tractor out there on weekends, so I have a few things to do as well and I'm looking forward too it.

So, I see your point about the cup holder and I'm thinking that there is no point in arguing about a cup holder so I'll drop it. And I'll admit after reading my own post it did sound a little sarcastic. I apologize. I inappropriately stepped on some toes and I see that, sorry Mark. Lets continue on with the thread and disregard what I said. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mighty hot mowing this weekend, and I dont have a cup holder either. Found an old corner bracket in the shop, and bent one side to wrap around the can, then bent the other to go under the can, and attached to the loader frame using an existing hole. Pretty quick and easy. See attachment.

Just for laughs I'll be honest. I ran out of room this weekend in the so called toolbox. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I now admit it would be nice to have just a little more room in there or an actual toolbox. Yes my foot is in my mouth. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyway the foam can holder works great in the cup holder. Fits right in there. Thanks for the idea tc35dforme. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I feel a photo-essay coming on here...
Maybe we could all empty out our "factory" toolboxes, put the contents on the operator's platform, and take a picture. The guy with the most useless stuff in there wins. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think I'll win this contest hands-down. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Pineridge and Mark... No fair cheating and takin' stuff out of your add-on boxes. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Sounds like a fun plan. When I get a chance I'll post a picture. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What do you think?
- one picture looking down on the "toolbox" open?
- then one picture with everything on the operators panel?
