TC40DA vs TC45DA

I am in the market for a new tractor. I am thinking about stepping up from the TC33D that I had previously. I have about 80 acres with the majority of it in WIP and classified forest therefore I will only be bush hogging less than 10 acres total. Will need to do food plots with disc and tiller. I am currently using a 5 ft bush hog and will probably not move up at this time. I had previously used the 33D with a 60 inch MMM to mow about 2 acres around my home, but I have since upgraded to a Scag mower for this job. Therefore my new tractor can be a little bigger. Also will be needing a FEL as I cannot live without one after having one with my 33D. I have looked at the 40 and 45DA and I like the hydrostatic for ease of use by my sons. What is your opinion of the above models and what do you feel would be a fair difference in price for the 4.6hp difference. Also I would value any additional help on pricing and features that i might need down the road. You guys are the greatest!

Most will tell you to save your money and go with the TC40. Myself I wouldn't have a TC45 because it's pretty dusty around here and having a turbo tractor sucking in dust and grit doesn't sit to well with me no matter how good the filter system is.

I would also like to suggest you either have the tires filled or wheel weights because the loader for that series tractor is one tough brute. I have a TC35 with the 16LA loader and my Pucker Button has gone off few times with a full bucket lifting high to dump the load into a dump truck.

Ahh...Randy. Are you thinking of the TC55DA? The TC40DA and TC45DA are both normally aspirated diesels with no turbo.

Nonetheless, I agree with you that the TC40DA would be my choice over the TC45DA. The only difference between those two tractors is the PTO hp. All other lift and pull specs will be identical. The transmission relief valve ensures one can pull no more than the other. The hydraulic relief valve is also set the same so that the 3PH and FEL have identical specs. Only if you were pushing the PTO to the limit would you see any difference. I think the TC40DA is the best "bang for the buck" between these two tractors. ...and I own a TC45D.

FWIW, I just bought a TC40DA. My final decision was between similar models from JD, Kubota, Case, etc. I got the decision down to JD and New Holland and made my final choice based on driver comfort. I liked the New Holland over the JD because you fill the tank from the back 9easy to get to), the seat rotates so I can watch my grader work easier, the hood raises high and with hyddraulic lifts so it is easy to get to the underhood items wthout removing the FEL, the FEL controls are better located and allow me to easily get on/off from either side fo the tractor, the steering wheel has both tillt and it will extend so my kids and wife can operate easier, and other smaller issues. (notice the emphasis on "easy"!). I did, however, really like JD process for removing the FEL. That is an awesome design.

And don't forget, the TC40DA has a special promotion right now. 0% for FOUR years -not just three like all the rest!

Good luck on your decision. Best part is .. no matter which tractor you choose, they all give you a lot of fun (don't tell my wife)!

With JD or Kubota you can get more "bang," but you will also spend more "buck" in the process. Both of these brands have 50+ hp hydros, but they are more expensive than the TC40DA. That's a decision you have to make.

Thanks for the help guys. It looks like I'll be driving blue for the years to come. I really like the layout of the TC40DA and I have really been happy with my previous TC33D. My local NH dealer is also excellent. But everyone else was trying to tell me to buy a real tractor this time and go green. I've driven JD's in the past year,but I felt more comfortable with my New Holland.Your input has strengthened my decision.

The "ergonomics" are great on a NH. I tried Orange, and the only thing that stopped me was "ergonomics".

If you have a good dealer, that is very important.

I basically feel the same as Bob. When it was time to buy I sat on a lot of different tractors and the New Holland platform seemed to fit me the best. 2+ years later and I'm still a very satisfied. You'll really like the TC40-DA
