Test drove new 3.5l TT Ford

Been following this thread as close friend is looking at new 1/2 ton and we went and drove the f150 eco with 3.21 gears today. All I can say is WOW. Really liked every thing about it. From what I can tell its the real deal. If this truck pulls like it ran empty will be good truck. He going in Saturday to finalize deal he is ordering one with eco boost 3.73 elocker max towhaul package rear camera 4x4 xlt. Anything you guys can think of he should order. He has 3500 lbs landscape trailer small boat and 30 foot camper with max of weight of 7500lbs. Seems like this will be a good fit for him even though he has only ever owned chevy's.

From the reviews from new owners, it will tow that weight like nothing's back there. The Max tow also comes with the brake controller and tow mirrors as part of the package. I've heard the new cameras are not as clear as the last models so he should check one to be sure he's happy with that first, especially in darker conditions. That truck will run like a beast and ride quiet and smooth.
Everything I've read on the Ford factory spray in liners is ok, but not as good as aftermarket. Especially if it needs touch up work down the road. And if it gets the factory spray liner it has to come from the KC plant and will likely delay the order. If it were me I would get it done locally by Line-X or similar as soon as the truck was delivered.

He got it ordered today saying about 7 weeks and they said bedliner would slow it down by a few weeks:confused:

Ended up with every thing possible on XLT and seems like good deal. Dealer said he had pulled 11K behind the 5.0 and the eco and on the bottom end eco shined but the one they had was a 3.21 and he ordered 3.73s should give a little more grunt.

The superduty is a superduty. F-250 and 350SRW are the same, if you order the heaviest sprung 250 model, the springs overlap the lightest 350 springs. Wheels, tires, axles brakes etc all the same. The 250 is great for people who can't have a 350 due to covenants, or saving a bit of registrations or insurance. Also, the 250 can be ordered with the softest suspension of the superduty making a sort of caddy ride. The 2005+ 250's are rated for higher load and towing than the 1999-2004 F350, so its just a further mockery of the 3/4 and 1 ton labels in marketing wars.

F-350 SRW is the best keep secret out there. You can go from 10,000# GVWR to 11,500# GVWR for only $600. That is pennies when you are talking about a $40,000 truck. You get more payload, larger wheels for more ground clearance, and the ability to handle more pin/tongue weight. I can not tell you how many times I see people putting larger springs or air bags trying to make a 3/4 ton into a 1 ton.

My :2cents:

I agree they are a little pricey, thats why I am building my own dump truck out of 97 superduty and have over 1/2 million miles between my 2 trucks. I want a new but cannot get my pencil to make the payments workout.

ditto that.

when i needed a truck to do some hauling for me .. something heavier and safer than my dodge 1500 or f250.. i got an f450.. a 99 model. was priced good and pulls good... couldn't afford a new equivalent..

my 97 ford has gvw of 15600 and 2004 dodge has gvw of 12000 and trust both to go anywhere and for light loads well guess I could take my atv?
Would love to buy one of these f150's my self as a daily driver only gets 22 mpg but its paid for. So for now I will enjoy riding in my buddys truck.
