Texas Fall/Winter thread!

My mom's family was SE Texas, and I got recipes from them on the gumbo and other good eats. In my travels, I met some neat ladies at some of the air races that were from LA, and they shared crawfish recipes with me! Life's been good, and, at least for now, I don't need cooking classes, in Cajun cuisine. And I still prefer home cooking to dine out. Only exception to that usually is that all-you-can-eat Chinese Buffet. I just won't allow myself to do that more than 2-3 times a year. I can make really good pepper steak and other dishes, but to get that much variety at one time, it has to be the buffet. :licking:

FG;

I agree, my weakness is the Won Ton soup for starters. Shortly after the Denny's, in Columbus, closed it became Buffet #1 and the food is GREAT! Sometimes I stop and grab a quart of Won Ton soup on the way from Houston to ranch. MMM ... MMM ..... GOOD!

Try Potbelly sometime. They are in Dallas and now Austin, and spreading across the state.

Thanks for the Potbelly tip. Looks like there is also one in College Station and their mediterranean sandwich (minus feta) and vegan spicy black bean soup look good!
The Jimmy Jon's has a vegetarian sandwich but disappointingly it's loaded with fat - avocado spread, two cheeses and mayo.

I hope that pot was washed and not licked clean,, cause it setting on the counter empty.. Well it was nice to see them all again in the same week.. Glad everybody has to go back to work and school tomorrow,:), Lou

I have had the Mediterranean Sandwich and it is very very good. I like their hummus. I get it with the hot peppers. Get the bread "thin cut." They hollow out most of the bread, and it drops the carbs and calories.

Potbelly owns shops in Dubai, and that was developed for the middle eastern markets.

I'll put that on my list right below Firehouse subs. We now have one in Conroe.

Don,
You can tell them to leave all that off next time.

Take care and be sure to get it checked out that its not H1N1. Probably isn't but no use taking chances.

You are right, but those are half of the ingredients, and if they would sell it for 1/2 price OK. BUT, I don't think they have a key on the register for that - it would so confuse them. I'll only pay for one item I'm not getting, otherwise substitutions or double of the good ingredients is expected. The menu has to come a little closer to what I eat or the employees get confused, or is it I get confused . . .

They did a nasal swab and it was not H1N1. I don't know how many viruses they check it against but they were all negative - so the official diagnosis was just viral syndrome.
