Texas Heat!

Th deer were in the garden last night eating corn. They must have jumped the electric fence or thought the corn was so good last year it was worth a zap. The corn really isn't much good. The variety we usually plant was not available at the mail order this year so the wife had to buy some local sacked stuff. We think it is misslabeled field corn. I ate field corn as a kid from my uncle's garden and it was ok if you got it young. This stuff has no taste even with butter on it.
Anyway I just put out a 6MP Wildgame Innovations game camera I got today for fun. It says it has rubber seals but do you guys really leave these things out in the rain.... if you ever have any rain?

Thats incredibile, That's the BSE for ya.
Here in Alberta Canada, we had the most rain in decades. All kinds of pasture available and no cattle to graze on it. Most cattle farmers up here sold out due to the BSE issue. Closing the borders was too drastic and unwarranted.
A simple isolation of the farms where BSE was found would have been sufficient. Our family farm where we raised cattle organically was hit for no reason. Healthy and fat cattle gone because we could no longer afford to raise them. It will take years to bring the industry back to where we were prior to BSE.
Sad!!

Yes western, we do have some good deer hunting up this way. Here is a picture of a big non-typical I shot in S.E. Iowa

pacerron, I read the first few pages of that book and I am already hooked. I have to get it.

In south central Iowa where my farm is, May 15th to July 4th we had one of or wettest late spring, early summer periods on record. June alone had 14 inches of rain, and my bottom ground flooded 6 times. Then we had no rain for 3 weeks. We have had several good rains since. I know that a lot of you in the drought are not getting much sleep worrying about trees, livestock, and crops. I hope it don't last much longer for you all.

Nice deer Gordo! I never hunted up that way, but one of my buddies got his 2 best in SW Ill.

Hopefully this pattern will break, heat this time of year is normal, but the "dry" isn't. Usually we start getting a few showers in September, so hopefully that's the case.

I have heard predictions that this drought could last into next fall, if that ends up being the case, that will be bad news for the agriculture in the state. Cost of veggies and beef will certainly go UP.

Very nice deer Gordo and thanks for the good thoughts. It was 104* yesterday but we got a little heat storm rain about 5:30. Looked like it was raining back to the NE towards Winnsboro then it started to sprinkle on the windshield as we got close to the house. Nice rain but only for about 20 min. It did drop the temp about 13 degrees which was nice. We continue to pray for rain and a break in the heat as this is really wearing all of us out.

Thanks for the deer compliment Nativeson, and Western. We have some pretty good genetics for deer by my place, just 35 miles away is Albia Iowa, where the world record non-typical white tail was shot.

Glad to hear that you got a little rain your way nativeson, I know it had to be some what of a relief. I see everyone is still in good spirits, and jokes about the heat and drought, but I know it is a worrisome time for the ones who are in it. My prayers go out for ya.

With all the heat, I've grown accustomed, I anticipate that this winter will feel abnormally cold at 50 degrees. Still needing vast amounts of rain here. Wells are running dry. Had some close storms spit at us, but that is about it.
