We just got enough to barely settle the dust. They weren't really forecasting much if any of the rain to reach our area. I'm glad the others received as much as they did, everyone needs it. I was in Temple last Saturday and it looked like the dead of winter, no green anywhere. A friend of ours in Azle received over 5".

Ron, I just poured it out after taking photos. I don't want to do anything special that might jinx us on future rain storms.

While it was still raining yesterday, we left to go have a late lunch with some friends who live in Fort Worth, TX. I decided to wait until today to go check my ponds/lake. I'll "discover" how much the rain helped in honor of Columbus Day.

Sure Glad that you are finally geting some rain. We have skipped a week here? I really hate it when large trees stat to die from drought and or heat stress?

The rain didn't amount to much here. Just enough to settle the dust. I can't even find enough in my rain gauge to measure what I received. Anything is better then nothing, but times are getting desperate around here.

I can't give witness to the amount I got at my place, but it was enough that the ground was still slippery this morning.

I know it will dry out all too soon unless we get a constant drizzle for at least 10 straight days, but I will take what I can get and say Thanks! :thumbsup:

I nearly lost a newborn calf a few days ago due to the low water level of one of my ponds. I always circle my pasture before it gets dark and I found a newborn stuck in the mud. He was light enough to make it almost to the water's edge before sinking in the mud. Luckily he was young enough that he didn't have the strength to struggle so he was just over belly deep and crying for his mama. I backed a small 4x8 flatbed trailer beside him and was able to roll him over on the bed. I put the pair in a small pasture behind the barn away from the ponds, will keep them there for a week or so. Calf is doing fine.

We got another inch of rain overnigt and it's going throgh the southern DFW metro area right now. Eddie, I think you'll get some of this, but the guys in central TX will have to suffer through another near miss.

So far today, I've gotten just under an inch and a quarter of rain, and Oncor has only turned off our electricity for a little over 2 hours. But it appears that we might get a little more rain, so I'm sure that also means we may have the electricity turned off again.:laughing:

Our power went off for just a moment last night due to lightning, but we've had nothing like the outages you have Bird. Oncor must have some major issues in your neighborhood with all your recent power losses.

Has been raining fairly steady since 6 AM. Radar shows a little more on the way. Enough to cause a little runoff. We got about a 1/10" when you guys in Wise County got 5".

With our rain and cooler temperatures (49 F last night), I was hoping the nightly visits of the armadillo to my lawn would go away. I kinda felt sorry for the critter before because the ground was too hard to dig everywhere else. Now, he has a target painted on his back because he hasn't slowed down his digging at all. My wife dusted the yard with cayenne pepper where he has been digging, and last night he just went to another spot and started digging softball sized holes there. Grrrr!

It's time to start walking around doing varmint patrol from my raised deck with my trusty 22 rifle before going to bed. My tolerance gage is reading EMPTY!

Barbecued armadillo ain't bad at all.:laughing: And the recent rains caused the grass in my yard to really perk up. In fact, it needs mowing and trimming, but the ophthalmologist who did the cataract surgery on my left eye yesterday says no bending or lifting at all, so I guess I've got a good excuse for letting the yard go. But I'd love to trade you my moles for your armadillo.

Been in E Texas for the week, glad to be home.

Actually rained while I was sleeping in Marshall TX. Don't know how much you E. Texas boys got, but it was puddled up everywhere.

Bird, How'd the surgery go?

Jim, I killed 5 armadillos until it was over and everyone came in at different times of the night, some early and some at daylight, so get a warm blanket, you might be on the porch awhile

Bird, How'd the surgery go?

So far, so good, Dennis. We went to the surgery center for a 10:30 a.m. check-in time, were there for a couple of hours, although the doctor's work took him about 15 minutes. I went for a Post-Op visit at 8 a.m. this morning. He says everything looks good and wants to see me Monday, the 24th. And with 4 different medicinal eye drops to apply 1, 2, and 4 times a day, I figure there might be a danger of floating the eyeball out of the socket. Anyway, I set up a spreadsheet to keep track of which ones to use when.:laughing: But no pain or discomfort. Vision was pretty blurry when I came home yesterday, now it's back to about where it was before, and he says it'll continue to improve.

:laughing: Sounds like a winner so far, I would use the I can't see to do it" for all it's worth, for a few day's. I have heard Apple Cobbler with a scoop of Vanilla helps with the "pain":thumbsup::laughing:

Yep, Dennis, I've had a number of surgeries in my life, but this was sure different. A nurse had me get on a roll around bed without getting undressed except to take off my shoes. Then she just unbuttoned the top 3 bottons on my shirt to stick 3 wires to my chest and put on a hospital gown over my clothes. She put the blood pressure cuff on my left arm and an IV in my right hand. I hadn't seen one of the beds or gurneys quite like this one. Instead of just rectangular, it had a very comfortable headrest up above what would be the end of the gurney. Another young lady came and said she'd be my anesthesiologist, couldn't put me to sleep because I needed to be able to hear and respond to the doctor, but that she'd be giving me a sedative to help me relax and they'd deaden the eye. If she gave me any sedative, I never knew it, never felt it, never saw it, and never needed it

Two or three times the doctor told me to be very still now, which I was already doing, so maybe it was some critical step he was taking. To start with, he had told me to look straight ahead at the light right over my face, and once he told me to look towards him. That was simple enough although all I could actually see was flashing lights of different colors and shapes, and pretty frequently I could see a small nozzle come from the other side and feel whatever liquid it poured in my eye. They had taped my head to the headrest so I couldn't turn my head, but it was quite comfortable.

They wanted me to stay in the recovery room for 30 minutes, although I saw no need to myself; no drowsiness, dizziness, etc. But that was OK because the nurse brought me a really good cup of coffee.

Vision was pretty blurry for quite awhile yesterday, but no problems.

They gave me a "Patient Lens Implant Identification Card" that has the company name, model number, serial number, length and optic numbers on it. I intended to ask him how they stamped all that on that lens, but I forgot.
