I used a 2' piece of pipe insulation on the front blade, made a heck of a rifle rest and kept the .22 from getting many scratches. My bucket was shaped like the 2nd one in your post Ron, it was huge though, 7' long IIRC.

Edit to add, the height advantage is you can see the whole turtle, or at least enough silhouette to get a shot. I didnt care where I hit it, but a body shot usually made them leave the water to rot on the bank. Head shots are cool, but I was more concerned about the kill since I had about 1k in stocker fish in 3 tanks.

If I had enough distance between my tank and some neighbors, I'd shoot .22, but I don't so I shoot .17 HR which do not ricochet. I only shoot from 1 side of the pond in which the closest neighbors are about 1/2 mile away or more.

Brandie, I climbed up the 1st few times since it was only like 6' to the cross bar. Got smart later and to get the kids up, I put a ladder on the hood. Full lift was about 14+' high. Of course a case 2290 is big anyway.

Kyle, most times your shooting nearly straight down, but never at an angle that will ricochet. Of course if your on a very large tank, but then it woud be like shooting from the bank.

Rain Monday???????????

Almost time for the Texas Heat thread, I was ready when we hit 75*

We've been in the mid to upper 90s all week. If it gets any hotter, we'll have to consider turning the A/C on!

:fiery:

Dennis,
So it's about the same lift as the Big RED Beast. Also, lose the e.

Bird, I feel blessed. The last storms that rolled through, seemed like I was the one that got the least amount. Havent been out yet (planned on picking corn today), but it looks like some decent run-off.

By 10 a.m. it appeared that the rain was over for today and I had a total of just about a quarter inch. But maybe tonight and tomorrow we'll get a bit more . . . we hope anyway.

Brandi It should have got her too, but as you can tell, sure a big difference here in 30 miles.

Posted this in Larro Darro's veggie thread, but thought I'd post it here as well

Picking corn today. 1st row gave up 3 -5 gallon buckets!

2nd photo was "quality control" and it PASSED

Somebody missing their cats and dogs? Because it rained them here. Chased me in from putting fence boards up. Had the generator, circular saw, and pancake compressor with nail gun out. They are got a rinse off from the rain. Came in, put on my rubber boots and rain gear and chased the ducks back into their pen so I could take Booger off the cable run. Poor Booger, he got soaked also. It was here just long enough for me to take a bath while dumping 1 inch of rain. We didn't need it. It's still drying out from the last flood.

Dennis,
Where are you that is 30 miles from me?

Dennis,
Your too young to leave your chompers on the night stand....
Lots of butter and eating it off the cob is what makes it good.
