I asked the Kubota dealer service that very question. He said that they (he) sucks the gear oil out with a vacuum pump. I didn't like that answer, so I lifted my (mower deck in this case) with the FEL and let it drain that way. IIRC there was a drain plug under the gear box frame, but couldn't hardly get a wrench on it.
Cheers Rock.
Mike
That's really going to make me angry.

If I have to scratch this paint to flip it over with the loader... I'm going to turn green and smash some stuff.

Are you guys using rattle cans to do your paint jobs? They sure look good.
I brushed on Rust-Oleum Kubota Orange from tractor supply. At 10 feet it looks like a show car. At 2 feet... It still looks plenty freaking great for a tractor implement! IMG_20180403_053710105.jpgIMG_20180403_053632963.jpgIMG_20180403_053557300.jpgIMG_20180403_053757202.jpg

Larry,
Is rust oleum your tractor supply’s main paint line?

Only place around here to get rustoleum a tractor and implement series is menards. But they only have about 4 colors. And kubota orange is not one of them.
Our local tractor supply carries valspar paints.

After sandblasting I prime and paint with acrylic enamel with hardener added out of my spray gun.

The restoration of my Land Pride FDR2572 finish mower has come to the end... Almost. I've but one thing left to do, change the gear box lube over to Amsoil.

Question, there is a pipe plug on the top horizontal plate to fill, there is a pipe plug on the rear facing wall of the gear box that I assume is the fill level because it is just above the bottom of the bearing. I hope I'm not being an idiot here.... How does it get drained?

I see the vent sticking up, the fill, and the level plug. No freaking drain plug! Okay, call me an idiot, but when your done... Tell me the procedure to drain, flush and properly refill.View attachment 547462View attachment 547463View attachment 547464View attachment 547465View attachment 547466

Sorry to burst your bubble Larry, but no drain plug. I have used turkey baster with hose I stole from my wife to suck it out. I had my gearbox off when I painted the mower, and dumped it then.20160317_143427.jpg

If you have a shop vac you can make a pretty simple pump -- stick some stiff wall tubing down your gear box vent hole and run it to some sort of container that can withstand suction (plastic juice jugs are usually OK for this). Seal the tubing to the container best you can, doesn't need to be perfect. Then make another hole in the container and suck through it with a shop vac. You should see the gear oil get pulled into the container.

Alternately, you can buy a simple oil change pump for about $30, which is handy for all sorts of projects (I use them to change oil on outboard motors when the boat is still in the water). It works like a pump sprayer in reverse.

Got everything put back together today. Just need to get two more thumb screw bolts.

The large landpride decal ripped like crazy when i peeled the back off. Made me mad for how much they all cost.
I was able to carefully place the rest on though and you can稚 even tell.

The black contrasting parts look ok. But I should have just painted it all orange. But oh well.

Looks pretty good with all the new decals and shines like crazy. Unfortunately it will just get dirty from here on out. Lol

I drive the tractor a few miles to my son's girlfriends house and removed some shrubs that she doesn't want. I have more to pull, but I'm waiting on PA 1 call to come mark out utilities first, I suspect that her gas, water and power all come to the home directly along side and beneath the other shrubs. That will make things difficult.

The backhoe and loader work so much better after shimming the hydraulic pressure up! Now it has plenty of hydraulic power.IMG_20180407_164538259_HDR.jpgIMG_20180408_120946579.jpg
