( DDT: Your correct, in a perfect world you could demo the unit to determine proper sizing. I would love to see these units in person to determine what I was buying. It's going to be a hard decision. )

Good luck choosing the right one.

I bet it will draw a crowd from passers by, and you can rent it out and get some of your money back.

AG Equipment USA is apparently a distributor for Durabuilt - here's a link to their website which has a dealer locator:

Huh... By the brochure, These things are built about an hour from here... There's a guy at my job from there, I'll ask if he knows em. (real small town.)

Conceiviblely, I could go over there and maybe get a tour. I've been meaning to get over that way as there's also an equipment trailer builder there.

Bart,

It's real encouraging hearing the ease with which your 5030 handled the DB6 ...... makes me wonder how a smaller unit would work on a smaller CUT ..... like a B2910 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As far as advice goes, I think I would be looking real hard at the Durabilt units given the cost difference. Their units aren't lighter than the Hoelschers, which I would think means at least they aren't skimping on the materials .... maybe just alot of bang for the buck. Dunno what difference the bowl having a curved rear might make as far as loading - compared to the flat (angled) rear in Hoelscher.

Is it just me - or do these things really seem not all that complex ? I'd be almost half-tempted to build one ...... I would think one might be able to do it for less than $1000 for the materials.

Anybody know how to get the owners manual/warranty papers on those without having to buy them first? I've sent an e-mail to Hoelscher and asked them a couple of questions but they aren't very specific with the answers. For the cost of these things since someone was kind enough to post other brands that do the same with what I consider a big price difference. Now I'm looking at Durabilt but the co. doesn't have a web site and detailed info isn't there.

Not only is cost an issue with these things but in my particular case I got up to 12" rocks embedded in the dirt and was trying to find out what type of metal they use for the scraper blade. I asked the one and all they came back with was its a high carbon steel thats heat treated. Not good enough for a guy that knows metal, some will bend and some if to hard will actually snap in two. I learned a lesson awhile back about warranties and what they DON'T cover, so I like to get as much info as possible.

rswyan,
I'm sure if a person knows welding they can make one but I'm sure the price is reflected on labor. I just got done painting my eaves on my single story house for $56 in paint and 3days of work, the cheapest price I was quoted was $800, labor prices take a heavy toll on things.

This is just something to think about. The rear housings are not very thick on these tractors, as we have seen from the gentleman that jerked the whole three point part of the rear housing out of his tractor. I would be willing to bet that the housing isn't any thicker in the bottom of the case that it is at the top. And yes, I know that utilities are used all the time for this operation, but they are designed to take a lot more punishment and have thicker housing. All that I am trying to say is to size the implement for the tractor and not get one to large.

ScottAR: I know this may be asking too much but if you would happen to go by where the Durabilt scrapers are made and take a tour, could you take some pictures an email them to me or post them on the site? A picture of the bowl and the cutting edge would help immensely.

rswyan: I agree with you, I'm looking real hard at the Durabilt for several reasons, price being the first, 5 foot cut instead of 6 foot cut equal easier loading, rounded bowl verses square makes easier loading by the rolling effect of the material. The size would seem to be about perfect for the 5030 and that's my biggest concern.

I am from Hoelscher Inc. and we do now offer a apron for the DB series scrapers. So if you have any questions you can sure ask them. I am glad to see that our little scrapers are getting some recognition.

Thanks
