Welcome aboard. Is the apron available as a retrofit for existing units ?

They look like very nice units.

( 5 foot cut instead of 6 foot cut equal easier loading The size would seem to be about perfect for the 5030 and that's my biggest concern. )

I'm kind surprised you'd be looking to go down in width, given the ease with which your 5030 seemed to pull the DB-6 @ 72". Will 60" cover your tire tread width ? Of course the next step up in the Durabuilts is 84" so the choices are limited - guess that might be pushing it a bit.

The Durabilt DP-60 will hold almost a half cubic yard more than DP-6 so it might be just the right size - you get the advantage of better cutting action with a narrower width but greater loaded capacity.

I thought this might be the case, but wasn't sure so I was hesitant to suggest it.

rswyan: The cutting width is not of concern for the application I'm using it for. If I need to make a straight deep cut, I would probably use the FEL to maintain the cut wheel width. My applications are strickly mass excavation where the dirt pan will be used to load and transport the dirt. Any squaring up of the site will be done with the FEL and the Box Blade. My goal is to get the largest capacity dirt pan that my tractor can efficently handle. I estimate a 1.5 to a 1.7 cy capacity would be in the ideal range for the Kubota L5030.

I wonder if Hoelscher will be coming out with a 1.5 or 1.7 cy scraper with an apron anytime soon? The interest seems to be there and with their marketing (awesome website) and well-made products, the room for growth in the compact tractor market is there considering 8 out of 10 tractors sold are compacts.

Sounds like as good a reason as any for a road trip... Be next week before I can...

rswyan,

Do it....I'd love to see one built by a TBNer. They aren't that complex and you have all the pictures from multiple angles right in this thread. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bart…
I’m late to this but… I used the model 25S for a lot of years behind a MF65. With wheel weights and liquid filled tires. With a little practice, in clay, you could fill it to overflow. In sand it did not fill as well. Moves a lot of material in a short time.

JerryG is right about rear housing on your tractor. … After, I don’t know how many thousand yards of scraping I tore the draw bar mount off the bottom of the MF65, TOO much tongue weight & a busted mounting bolt, oops…. On that tractor it only required drilling larger holes and tapping to a larger bolt size. I would not want to try that repair on my Kubota.
The MF65 would have been happier with a little more hp. But it did handle the scraper fine on level work… If there was much of an incline it quickly ran out of power during the fill, slice. I would think a L5030 would just fly with it.
That is a very handy tool also to compact in reverse while lowering the bowl.
For transporting it is great, as the opening at the bottom is closed as you go from fill toward dump. KennyV.

KennyV: It's great to hear from someone that has used the Ashland 25S. I really like the thought of getting the bigger scraper providing it doesn't damage my tractor. I have a question for you or any TBN member, where can I find specifications on the MF65 since that is the tractor you used. I tried the MF website with no luck. I'm trying to find the weight of the tractor (MF65) and the horsepower to do a comparison with the Kubota L5030. Thanks for the response.

Yeah - I would think that there is definitely a market out there - even if the market isn't directly to CUT owners, it might to the rental yards since a number of folks have expressed an interest in being able to rent one.

Personally myself, I'd be interested in a smaller capacity unit that I might be able to pull with my B2910, with a cutting width of 54" which is my tire width.

I supposed to go dumpster fishing over at a fab shop in the next couple of hours - I'll see what they've got in the bin and if anything looks interesting for something like this. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bart…
The MF65 I had was a 1964 model, gas (very nice utility tractor). I’m not sure but I believe it weighed around 5000 pounds, with all the auxiliary weight on the rear wheels. I think it was around 40 Hp.
That size was definitely at the very top of what should have been used with that size tractor. If I would have had a larger tractor at the time I would have not used the 65.
I think my L4200 would be ok with it but...? I have never tried it and have since sold the scraper. It is a well built tool with speed being its main intent. The tongue weight was quite high when heaped full… and it filled very quickly once you got your technique down. You never had to stop or slow down just a continual strip deliver dump and repeat. That thing was very handy building terracing or elevating large areas. KennyV.
