The \"I\'ts Here!\" thread type

I get a bit of a vicarious thrill everytime I read an "It's here!" thread. It reminds me of the joy I got when my tractor showed up out front.

There are some standard threads that one gets a bit jaded about, things that are asked almost every week in one section or another, but I never tire of seeing "It's here!" on a subject line.

Even though one new CK20, or L7800, or 4310 looks pretty much like the last one of the same model tractor, I always look at the photos and am pleased as punch about it.

I think I heard the term "tractor ****" from Henro first. I don't think that's quite right, because I really do read the text as well as look at the photos.

I'm with you Cliff. Don't know what it is...maybe the different background or something...but each time a new tractor arrives at someone's house, it is sort of like seeing a new baby...they are all babies, but unique as well.

It must be that we tie the new tractor to the owner, and even though it may by itself look the same, it isn't the same at all...from the big picture perspective...

edit: The only thread that turns up is this one. So my guess it was either Junkman or AndyM that said it... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Gerald hit the nail right on the head. A tractor may start out stock but it isn't long before tilt meters, tool-boxes, and all the other goodies are added or fabricated to fit. Each tractor owner has a particular need or want and the sharing of ideas here at this site is incredible. Keep all the pictures and ideas coming guys.

I like to read those kind of threads, too. They are even better when photos are attached. It should be clearly stated as the number 1 priority of the TOS when new users sign up, is to post photos of the new arrivals. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sadly it's been three long years & 450 hours since the joy of my new tractor. It will be paid for in May /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif My ability to aquire implements is severly impaired by 1. my ability to store them and 2. approval from the CFO.

Dad was kind enough to buy a TC40DA in the fall. I'm looking forward to running his grapple attachment this summer. I'll be sure to post pics.

It is of interest seeing how others share the joy of ownership. Yesterday I almost ran off the road, eyeballing an L series Kubota coming down the road. All shiny and new, man that was sweet. But alas, I don't know the owner, and doubt if they visit TBN. Internet challenged we are, it is an infrastructure problem for us.

Hello, BRAND NEW IN EVERY WAY. don't even know how to make a post.

My soon-to-be-60 hubby and I are the proud parents of a new-to-us grey market kubota prob equiv to L245 but not even sure of that. It arrived with a 54 inch rototiller on the back.

GOOD THING! We'd no more how to get something off or on a PTO hitch than we'd know how to fly.

THERE"S GOT TO BE OTHER FOLKS WHO USED TO BE JUST LIKE US OUT THERE....we've dug in the dirt and raised our own food whenever we could. Now we've got 3 acres and time, and ...stars in our eyes... and the courage to try new things!

So - where do we go to learn about PTO speeds, and how to raise and lower the rototiller, and how to know how fast to go when you till...the BABY STEPS???

Actually, please start here. I love my husband. What are the things a brand new beginner might do that could lead to injury or death? THAT'S WHAT I WANT TO KNOW FIRST! I've heard of tractors rolling!

Midway through reading your post my first thought was for you to go to the SAFETY forum here on TBN and start reading the threads. There's a lot of VERY useful information to be learned from all the seasoned members on this forum. Be careful, GO SLOW and Good luck. Gerard

ok, will do
the moderator sent a link to a pdf file on safetwy which i asked hubby to print at work...

so I make a post then i just keep looking to see if there are replies...

after he gets off work we are going to go out and just drive around till we get used to the clutch, the 7 or 8 gears, etc...

but if we get adventuresome, is it pretty obvious how to raise and lower the tiller? You would always do that with the tractor standing still, eh?

Carol, the first thing to learn is post only one thread about the same subject, it causes confusion when a lot of people are responding, also, you don't want to hijack another's thread with your questions. As an example, I just answered your own thread, and now I found this one. Not a huge problem unless it's commonly done.
There should be a lever, probably off to your right when in the seat that moves fore and aft. That's the 3pt hitch lever. While you don't have to be stopped to raise/lower, it may be better to start out doing it that way until your more familiar with the operation. Of course, you'll need to know how to initiate the PTO to turn the tiller, but we can get into that later. Read your thread and send me questions. John /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

First, just some friendly advice. Take your time and don't be afraid to ask lots of questions. Everybody here will be happy to help you. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm sure John won't mind if I reply to your question here.

A post generally is the first thing a person places in a particular forum that begins the discussion of the posters question or comment.. You've already done that, so you know how to "start" a thread. However, a post can also be the individual reply that someone makes in response to another post. This reply that I'm making to you now is a post, but is also a reply.

A thread is the entire discussion of a particualr topic that is comprised of all of the posts/replies that people have contributed. I suppose to be technically considered a thread, it must have at least 2 posts, the original post and 1 reply.

I've not noticed if anyone else has suggested this, so if they have, then you can ignore it. But you might take a few minutes and read through the FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions to help you better understand how things work and what you can do.
