The missing key...

Today when I returned the tractor (BX22) to the garage and reached down to turn it off, the key was missing. Got another key and found that the key will come out of the switch in the run position. Don't know if this is a common problem or just a fluke. Check your tractor.

That may be the reason that MIL's L3130 came with a very small cable through the key and around the steering column.

All my key is good for is to turn on the glow plugs and operate the starter. After its running you can take the key out.

Egon, you can take the key out, but leave the switch "On", can't you. Of course, with the kind of kill switch the B7100 has, you can turn the key to "Off" and remove it and not kill the engine, but you do kill the electrical system; i.e., battery is not charging, hour meter not working, etc. At least that's the way it was on my '95 model.

Weren't all of the GM cars and trucks during most of the 70's and 80's like that? You only needed the key to move from the "off" position, and after that, you could take the key out.

My 57 Chevy (first car!) had that. If you didn't put in lock on the ignition, you didn't even need a key. It was Lock, Off, On, Start.

A great car: 283 Auto, and Powerglide 2 speed auto. Don't think it had power steering, so all the power went to the Xmission.

That system was exclusive to Chevrolet models from my recollection. It was started that way in 1955 and ended in 1964. The key swich mechanism had a raised portion so you could turn it by hand. I just happen to have one on my desk waiting to be installed into my 1964 Corvair.

As usuayal you are right Bird. My biggest key problems occur in the witertime when the water gets into key slot and freezes. Tractor spends a lot of time outside.

the man that delivered my BX 23 said to always take the key out of the switch when hauling it because the wind will blow it away
