Shouldn't we expect the representatives we elect to understand and enforce our constitution be schooled in it and understand the intent of the framers? I mean, the one thing they all have in common is that they took an oath and have sworn to enforce it.

Pretty sure the older folks are more in touch with prior generations than younger folks. Young people, as a group, just don't know what they don't know. Most of us us thought we were brilliant and invincible at 21. By 41, most of us knew we were neither.

The tests are just to weed out the extremes.

I love the idea, but you have to realize this will never work. A system which gets all of us to stop voting for a dinosaur, just because the alternative in a two-party system is even worse, is the only real solution to this problem.

Taking that a step farther, I don't know that I've ever voted for a President. I've always only voted against the worse of two bad choices. Sometimes there was a third party candidate that I liked better than either of the big two, but the realist in me won't allow myself to throw away a vote on any candidate polling at 1%.

I would expect a lawsuit for age discrimination. Completely fair to discriminate on competence. Illegal to discriminate solely on age...unless of course you amend the constitution.

Where is that covered in the constitution? Right next to the right for healthcare and housing?
The Fourteenth Amendment promises that all persons in the United States shall enjoy the “equal protection of the laws.” This means that they cannot be discriminated against without good reason. All laws discriminate, because governments must make choices about what is lawful.

No, the only place where age discrimination is legal is when it is proscribed in the constitution. Meaning, it sets age minimums for some public office. The only way to set age maximums would be to amend it.
