Just received my EA Wicked 66 Root Grapple this week. Shipped the day after I ordered it. Put it on my Bobcat 763.
Travis did mention to me "Not intended for a skid steer". I fully understood his comment.
Travis knows his stuff ... he told me I need longer hoses. The length he said I need were exactly right.
He said the bracket that holds the spring loaded hose saver may hit the Bobcat when bucket is fully curled up. He was right, BUT
as a result it prevents the hoses from getting pinched.... Travis knows his stuff!
I was very happy that the fittings were not greased and there was no hydraulic fluid in the new grapple. I want to use my own grease and my Bobcat fluid.
Needless to say I put it to work right away. And I can tell you I'm very happy I chose EA. Well made, Well done!
This grapple will probably end up on a tractor in the future ... who knows.
No problem with the grapple opening for me. Yes, I know lots of posts are asking for upgrades to the design. EA will no doubt come up with that. All good suggestions, too.
BUT, for me, call me HAPPY !! Thanks EA. Thanks Ted and Travis.
Harry

P.S. Even my wife likes it! That means a lot!!

Looks like we thought it out and made some great choices, Harry!!
Thanks for sharing. We'd love to see more when you get it dirty!
Travis

Instead, build a 78-84" wide high capacity Gannon box blade with hydraulic scarifiers knockoff so I can buy it from you, bang on it all this summer making over one mile of road with it, while also making awesome videos. I'll even put money down on it if you can have it ready by the time the snow melts in northern Minnesota.

We may have one by then. Heck, there's snow there till mid May isn't there?
I like the decal.

if your logic is true, then you don't need to open your grapple any farther than 1". Try picking up a large pile of brush with a 1" opening, then try with your 30" opening. Please show us pictures of proof that you don't need a large opening to pick up the same pile, that a small 1" opening will do.

OH NO. Are you telling me now that we'll be forced to make a smaller opening grapple? With cylinder stops sized just right, I think it can be arranged.

As full as I can on each pick. I don't see a reason not to take full bites if I am clearing/moving brush.

Agree. It isn't about simply clamping down on a single "bite". Make the first bite then move, reopen the grapple and cram in another bite or two before moving the brush to the working pile. I often will generate a number of working piles and then later haul those piles and transport to a central burn pile or dump. That last step, consolidating and moving work piles generates the largest grapple loads as I can open the grapple wide and crush down with the grapple before clamping. There is no practical weight limit with brush so the only factors that limit load size are grapple opening size and weight of the front of tractor to compress as much brush as possible into the grapple maw before clamping. I often lift the front wheels off the ground to get best possible compression.

If all I had was a grapple with 30" opening, I'd survive but that same grapple with another 12-18 inches of opening would clearly get brush work done faster. Not an issue for moving whole trees or rocks as lift capacity rather than opening size is the limiting factor then.

Well, I move more rocks and logs, than I do brush, but I have moved brush piles so big I had trouble seeing how to drive. But on the other hand I can see how a wider opening grapple would shove in more brush easier.

94bullit,

If I can roll over to a pile, open wide and grab the pile and go dump it. Why would I want to roll over to the pile, roll the pile, smoosh the pile, cuddle the pile, then pick up half of the pile and go dump it.

And you may be the best grappler that ever lived, but still, there's a lot of people here that think wider is better. Maybe you can't visual it yet...but I believe you can get there if you try hard enough...but I may be wrong.

While were at it, I think i'll see if Ted can lighten this up a little and put a tractor hitch on it. Fewer trips is the goal, right?

Well, I want EA's root rake style in 60".

With a 48" opening.

And upper tines that close all the way to the lower bar, but pass right next to the lower tine tips so I can still pick up a broomstick by pinching.

And with the lid separated into two for better clamping of uneven items.

And that weighs 1# while having a 10,000# capacity.

And that costs a dollar and has free shipping and installation.

And it should be helium filled to actually increase my loader capacity.

And has hydraulically extendable lower tines so it can operate as an "L" shaped grapple once in a while.

And I want it yesterday, bub!
