I used cards all the time UNTIL I was buying gas and the card was declined, and yet again at the grocery store, made me feel like an idiot, there was no balance on the $5000 credit limit, they closed the account because I hadn't used it for a while and didn't let me know. I closed three accounts as soon as I got home, I keep one that I use for gas at least once a month they can keep the rest..

Credit card company's aren't in business to make sure your purchases are covered if fraud is evident or to give you money back, they sit and wait for an emergency high dollar item that you need immediately and don't have the money for and probably wont be able to cover within 20 days. It's a matter of time before that happens and they know it..

People have ups and downs through life, credit card company's wait for the downs and then give you a swift kick in the you know what as soon as the card holder is at there worst, nice people they are..

Yea, I don't agree with any of this.

I had 2 cards closed for inactivity. prolly got 5 emails and 2 mailed letters indicating the exact date they were closing the card.

i have been hit with fraud 3 times so far, one was over $8500. i know exactly where it got ripped off. a waitress in a airport restaurant, bought 8500 in airline tickets. i made a 15 minute call, had new cards issued and the entire 8500 dollars wiped from the slate. i wasn't out a dime, nor did i have to cover 1 cent of the fraud. debit card? that money is out of your account till they clear it up.

emergency high dollar item? sorry i have a rainy day fund for these type of events. How in the world this is the credit card company fault is beyond me. This is the issue with people they blame everyone for their poor financial planning, its never them. NO ONE forced you to use a credit card, no gun held to your head. You chose to use the credit card and knew the rates it would cost. they are multiple options for loans, which may have significantly better rates. whats this 20 days? credit card bills are due every month or 30 days, its actually longer since the bill is actually due the next month...

Why should a BUSINESS who's job it is to make money, give you free money? yet ironically i do get free money. I am a complete money loss for them, yet they don't close my accounts either.

you know whats a kick in the nuts? people who rack up 50-60-100k in debt. then either claim bankruptcy or debit consolidation where they pay 1/8 of what they owe and get the slate wiped clean? thats a kick in the nuts for people who pay their bills on time. what nice people they are...

Remember its never your fault....

Very good friends lost their prize breeding stock in a barn fire many years ago. Had they not been able to LEGALLY use the bankruptcy laws their children would have starved. Would you like to see children starve or admit that using legal techniques on the law books is an acceptable route? Please reconsider.

According to him they should have starved..

I know. These settle your credit card debts schemes are like a reward for these financially irresponsible people. On the other hand. The Government throws billions away, so who can really say that the little guy is so bad?

As for the above post. And then at Christmas, what do people do, for these other people not making ends meet? We buy their children toys. Sorry, but I have always thought that just a bit odd. Or, in some cases, you buy them food, or they go to the foodbank, so they can spend their wellfare money on other stuff. Like smokes and lottery tickets. I know. the subject has probably been debated at length.

There's a big difference in someone running up debt never planning to pay it back, and someone losing everything due to an accident.

also would like to know where the insurance policy was if this fire was life/carereer ending as you put it. why would the children starve? the parents can't get other jobs? they can't go to a food pantry? i could care less about my pride if my children were starving, they would be there everyday getting fed if need be.

3 people in my family have gone through bankruptcy, i'm well aware of it, and how in 3-5 years its almost like it didn't happen.

i said it was a kick in the nuts, thats it. never said people shouldn't do it, but if you don't think people don't play the system your kidding yourself.

nope calling it as i see it, nothing more nothing less. most people just make terribly bad financial decisions.

I am far from perfect.

I for one have been fortunate and haven't had the problems of some others, most people make the best choices they can, I don't fault anyone if the best choice is out of reach because I don't wear there shoes and neither do you..

my experience has been they make the easiest choice never the best (that they can actually make), most people simply can't believe they can't afford the lifestyle they lead.

There are some that do this no doubt but there are others that don't have a choice for one reason or another, don't lump everyone into the same pile..

i don't play the 1 off game. there will always be someone who doesn't fall under this. I am always talking the averages

I have been very fortunate and some people I know are resentful of that. But you know what? Some peodple, no matter how much good fortune comes their way, they will squander it. So I don't feel I have anything to be sorry for for being (mostly) reponsible. If you ever look into Lottery winners. MOST, squander it and many even don't make it out of the experience alive!

This thread shows that we're all different. Some have complaints about credit card companies, some do not. But most of us have had at least some interesting experiences. I've already posted about what happened when a payment I sent to a credit card company failed to get there for a month. And the card company cancelled the interest they were going to charge. At least twice someone has gotten the information to make fraudulent charges on one of my credit cards. Both times, the credit card company cancelled the card and very promptly issued a new one with a new number. And once I had a very small problem that was definitely my fault. I bought a new computer, printer, etc. on a credit card. Then I had a service station reject my card for a gasoline purchase. Now I was sure that I was under my limit, and of course, planned to pay the bill in full on the next billing date. But when I got home, I checked and "oops" my limit at the time was not as high as I thought it was, definitely my fault, and I'd gone over the limit. I called the credit card company to apologize and the person with whom I spoke said he'd just raise my limit and that way it would never show that I'd gone over. So I've had no reason to complain about my credit card companies with one exception. I have a Chase Visa card, never any problems with the card or credit, etc. BUT they have the most inconvenient website of any company that I deal with. And mention of old accounts being cancelled reminds me of the fact that many, many years ago (so long ago that I can't remember when), my credit union offered something they called a "phone a loan" in which you could set up an account for whatever amount you wanted to that they would approve, and any time you wanted to borrow money, you just called on the phone and told them how much to put in that account, and of course you'd pay interest on that amount until it was repaid. Now maybe 40 or 50 years ago, I thought I might need a little cash sometime and it would be nice to have it readily available, so I set up a "Phone A Loan" account for $5,000. Now I NEVER used that account at all in any way. But it still shows as an open account on my monthly statements with a zero balance EVERY month.

If you call, and warn them that you are about to charge a high dollar item, or are leaving the country, there is never a problem.

I know that but what in my post made you think I tried doing that? Local gas and grocery's was all I tried buying.

We notify our bank and credit cards when we are about to travel out of state. This way, they know we are traveling and that it is us traveling and using our cards.
