Well, if you are bored and want to read this thread should explain my recent experience http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/ag-tractors-machinery/110955-i-might-need-sell-my.html

I read every word of the thread. I learned alot also. Renze seems like a pretty good guy. I really liked how he stayed with you thru all 9-10 pages untell both of you got figured out just what happened. He could have been like most of the posters on forums and claimed you dont know what your talking about and moved on. I really like his patience and willingness to help.
When I bought my tractor. My choice was narrowed down to 2 tractor. 5300 and 5310. I'd rather the 5310 cause it has 55hp on the pto where the 5300 only has 50hp. This is going to limit me on round hay baling to around 5x4s. I think massey has a 5x5 that runs off 50 hp. I'm not quite sure. 55 hp would have opened alot more doors on the 5x6 and 6x6. The 5310 had a fuel leak and the dealership is'nt going to fix it. The saleman said it would cost about $300 parts and labor. I would have to buy the tractor 1st then have it fixed. The problem came down to they would'nt put into writing what it would cost to fix the tractor. That lead me to believe that the problem was really what I found here on this forum and other places to be the problem. When I researched it I getting the injector pump. A rebuilt pump cost a $1,000 by itself. Then it has to be timed which adds to the labor. I was'nt going to tell the salesman this but I was ready to give him $1,800 for that tractor if the fuel issue was fixed. All he had to do was ask. Like I said I would have given up to $1,800 to have it fixed if they where to put into writing what it would cost. I did'nt want be in a place that your in right now. So my starting point could have been a whole lot worst than it already is.

Yeah, Renze is a good guy. I have known him for years thru a few different boards. Hopefully I will get things figured out on my tractor in the next month but I do not have much faith in it anymore:(

I would accept what they're offering you, but I would remember your initial experience in making any and all decisions about future purchases. And I would tell your farmer friends, if they ask, what you've done and why.

Everyone makes mistakes. Tri-green made a mistake and they are humbling themselves by coming back by groveling. The point of all the noise is that you wanted your grievance to be made right, correct? To not accept seems like it runs counter to your original goal.

Unfortunately, it is often the case in life that the squeaky wheels get the grease. You squeaked loud and now they want to give you some grease. Just take the offer and think about it no more. I guarantee that they know you now and will think twice before slighting you again in the future.

Well an interesting series of posts. Exiled it seems that you got wronged, your local friends stood up for you and taught this Dealer a good lesson. that they should know already, you need to operate a business from both the short-term and the long-term perspectives, and every customer is important. I would say that I agree with those who say take advantagge of the offers, but i would limit my business with them for emergencies or if they absolutely have the best deal. I would imagine that they will have a long memory on this. you also have the Mrs leaning on you to accept the apology associated offers. That is a good sign that it might be a good idea to accept them too. Most ladies are much better at finding deals than we are, as they practice way more constantly than we do!

I do think you got the Dealer to squirm quite a bit based on your posts. and that is good as they should have been squeezed by their customers.

I would keep the dialogue open with them and you never know they might sweeten the pot by offering you as deal on another tractor? Hint Hint, suggestion, Dealer, give this man an offer that is very hard to refuse!

Hey Exiled,
I read both threads. Followed the first one but didn't comment because it had all been said. Here too, sort of.

You're in an interesting situation. Given you're going to tell the guy who put pressure on the dealer, that they called and grovelled some because of his input, I think you're pretty clear on everything. Now you can basically do what you want.

What I might do when you tell your friend how much his input affected the dealer, is thank him, tell him you hope he doesn't change his business because of your situation, and also ask what he thinks you should do. Because if he says accept their offer, then in a way you're actually accepting a gift from him, and will not feel you owe the dealer your loyalty.

My philosophy in situations like yours is forgive, and eventually forget. If your friend says take them up on their offer, you still won't. But you will be able to call the manager, tell him you appreciate their following up even though you suspect that it's due to pressure from your friend, and then say that you don't really want all the extras, and propose that if they will simply service the tractor and check make sure no harm was done by their running it when it was low on fluids, you'll consider that ample follow up.

It serves two purposes, they make some ammends, and if the tractor does develop a problem this year or next due to the "low fluid" time, they'll probably feel obligated to fix it for free or at least very cheaply. Everyone can keep some pride that way, and honestly, I suspect no harm was done to your tractor.

Regards and good luck,
Todd

This is'nt going to happen. He knows I will not take it even from him.

Bout 2 years ago I hired his son to come out to a pasture I just rented to bushhog and drag it. When loyd's son got finished Him and I loaded his tractor on the trailer and chained it down. He got in his truck and left when I whent to my truck for my wallet. I thought he just forgot so I followed him to his house. He would'nt take the money. I left it in his door. The next morning when I whent to my truck the money was on the window wiper. I called him up and he said my money was no good. Needless to say their tractor have'nt been on any of my pastures again. Loyd keeps affering to cut and bale a 72 acre pasture I have. He will not agree to any of my terms. I've offered $9 a roll or he takes half. He does'nt want anything. I can'nt allow a man to work for nothing not to mention spend money on fuel, twine and what ever else that might come up.
I'm no better than anybody else. I just dont believe anything is for free. If it was'nt just my feelings, theres other things. Like I've mentioned I in a position at work where these guys paycheck is based on my grades and weights of their grain. If I ever let it get out that ?I have people doing things for me and someone is having a bad day or harvest they can easly throw this up. I'm manging alot of ground as yu can see. So a little help will carry me along way. I dont want to one be looking at loyd's load and find Aflatoxin in it and be faced with "what do I do now". I know in some way I'll feel compelled to let it slide. But I cant do that cause it will be unfair to all the other farmers and the company I work for. Although it wont hurt my company cause I can blend it out. Its the matter that I would know what I did even though I did'nt tell anybody.`
This is'nt a case of boohoo you hurt my feeling I'm taking my toys and going home. You can look at my thread "breaking stuff and still loving it" and look at the pics. I working this tractor. I just wanted to see how the word would handle this type of situation. I have learned alot in the last 2 threads. ! thing is for sure. I see how the term "everything has a price" was coined. I got the feeling from some people that it did'nt matter how you carried yourself if you paid them they would be alright.

Well, I like your ethics. And also your unwillingness to put yourself in a position that might make you feel even the slightest pressure to compromise them.

Be well and enjoy the tractor!
