I have an old Echo CS490 and a newer CS620P.
490 for smaller felling and branch removal.
620P to take down and buck the 30 or so huge ash.
The 490 was taking to long to fell and buck the 30+ inch ash, 620P was quick.
Even used both to do some milling of planks without issues.

Makita stopped production of all gas powered products on March 31, 2021.
What are these? Leftovers?

Some of those saws are showing discontinued on the Makita dealer B2B order site. And for a FYI Makita is showing the ignition module for that EA5000PRFL as discontinued even though the saw shows available.

I wonder if there’s any talk of someone picking up the Makita/Dolmar line and bringing them back?

That’s a lot of technology and excellence just being set adrift.

That somebody would have to purchase either the entire Makita Corp, or purchase Dolmar from Makita. I would be fine with somebody bringing back the Dolmar name. Good products and would make my customers happy if I was selling Dolmar again.

I know Dolmar had some good tech in the pipeline like a saw that could switch from straight gas/E10 to E85 with the twist of a knob, and they were testing a 4 stroke saw in Germany.

I do recall that quite a while back you said Makita was getting out of the gas tool business. Their website is very heavy on battery and some pneumatic so it’s possible those are left overs But they must have a lot of them or they wouldn’t still show on their main website.

Doesn’t make me a fan of Makita if they are setting customers up like this.

There is a youtube channel called "Project Farm" and the guy there does very analytical comparisons between all types of tools. When he did the chainsaws, it was clear that nothing touched the Stihl. I have been a long time user of Stihls and was looking to change over for two reasons. The first was that every time you open the gas cap, a little fuel spits out. (Note, the forest fire service stopped using them because of this.) Also, the entire handle is the main body of the saw. I have had problems where the handle gets damaged and it is a pain to replace it. After seeing the Project Farm review, and not finding another brand that make the handle separate, I'm sticking with Stihl.

His comparison was of homeowner saws. The Stihl was also 5cc larger than the Husqvarna it barely beat. Husqvarna makes an equally good saw. Throw a 372xp in the lineup and see what happens.

Makita saws are still for sale online. I’m not seeing any proof that they’re discontinued.
