Thinking about new Shoes - Wrangler AT w/Kevlar

Around here Goodyear Dura Tracs are king. About 60% of my clients run them as do I.

I have also personally ran BFG AT and Cooper Zeon with good success.

My do not buys are Michelin and Continental.

I have the LT Goodyear adventurer on my truck. We had silent armour on all the work trucks and I was very pleased with the traction, so when the tire shop told me that the adventurer was the same tire, just renamed I went for it. They were wrong, the winter traction is far less with the adventurer then the silent armour. Both were identical size and LT rated and on F150's. Previously on the work trucks we had Goodyear Duratracs, and we took those off with 60-70% tread remaining and replaced them with the silent armour. Duratracs are hopelessly horrible on icy highways and back roads. Duratracs were a great tough tire for staying in the plant site with its 1-1/2" gravel roads, but not good on icy highways.

I previously had BFG all terrain TA. I really liked them, but I only got about 60,000 km from the, which I thought was poor.

In answer to your other question, you should be fine going up 10mm in tread width without rubbing.

P.S. for a good time look up how that tire sizing system (i.e 235/85) works. It's pretty funny.

Thanks! for the vote in confidence on the size. And nope, been there down that with the tire sizing system.:laughing: Actually getting frustrated right now. Tirerack lists a "C" range LT275/65R18 AT Adventure that has the same tread depth as the the "E" range version but is significantly lighter. However, they are they only place that apparently believes they exist...... including Goodyear.

Thanks for the input on the Adventuer's. I had originally wanted the Silent Armor's but can't find them in my size down here anymore due to the phaseout. I somehow doubt we see the same quality of snow and ice down here in GA that you do, but it is part of the consideration.

At the moment I'm thinking that the BFG AT K/O may be the fallback, fast becoming the first choice.

I've had two sets of BFG AT KOs on my Tundra now. The first set replaced the stock tires around the 25k mile mark because I needed something better for winter. They lasted at least 65k miles. The current set still has plenty of tread but father time has gotten to them (I think they are 7 years old now with about 40k miles on them). I'm sold on them except for the price, man are they expensive. I run them year round and they handle it all. The last 3 or 4 years now I've been putting about 1000 miles a year on the truck so I just can't justify spending that kind of money on tires that most likely will weather check long before the nipples wear off. However if I was using it on a regular basis I would buy them again.

Had a set on a new Volvo. Blew 3 of the 4 out on potholes. At the time we had 4 vehicles of which none of the others blew out. Replaced the first two blown out ones with exact tires and blew out a new one. Changed to another brand and no more issues for over 100,000 miles.

Had a set on a 4x4 F350. It would get stuck on wet grass and in 6" of snow. The tread packed up and did not self clean. Replaced with another brand and it was like a new truck.

Don't get me wrong, they ride great, but at a price. I would rather have a little noise or harsher ride and a better functioning tire.

Sounds like you bought the wrong tire for the application. Michelins are quality tires for sure.

I also am not a fan of Michelins, they wear a long time because I think they are made of stone.

I've always liked the new General Grabber AT3's and haven't read a negative review about them yet. I actually strongly considered a set but got a good deal on a set of Nittos but they will likely be my next tire.
