Tonight I found I have a few vhs videos of my build, already in mpg format. I need to edit out the construction parts, and I might get some up on YouTube some day to go along with this thread.

No work on the house, but this day was the first time seeing my doctor I still see. Although he is retiring this fall. He said this Covid is making him quit.

Why is Covid making him quit?

19970523 Friday

Took day off work
Parents came for memorial weekend
Dad , 74 yo at the time shingled on back roof.
I put more shingles on the front
Put tyvek on 2nd floor back. We used the cardboard roll from the middle, a rope at each end, and raised it up like a curtain. Then nailed top on by reaching over top wall between rafters. Then used ladders to nail bottom, and reached out window openings to nail also.
Next time it goes on wall before the wall is stood.

19970526 Monday Memorial Day

Installed upstairs hall wall. Made some changes to the plan. Decided to run hall to right end of house for when I build the garage, all I have to do is remove window. Framed a door opening and then framed a window. This made the front bedroom much smaller, but was much better when I added the garage, as I didn’t have to change walls, flooring, electric, etc. this front BR was the boys room when they were little, with 2 single beds. Now it’s my wife’s craft room, and my work room during Covid. My downstairs office is too full, lol.

Install 2 3032 bathroom windows upstairs
Install sliding door frame in kitchen.

More shingles on, they are almost done.

Here’s my favorite build picture.

My dad, age 73 finishing the back shingles. He’s now 96. Dad was diagnosed with prostrate cancer later on and was not able to help me any after this.

One of my motivations for building my own house is my dad had built our house growing up (moved in when I was 3). Money was another factor.
