Not to let Don get too far ahead me in the stupid tricks department yesterday morning I did one of those putting my head up my backside and then asking who turned out the lights.

In a moment of inattention I allowed my half inch DeWalt drill get it's way. It's way was to do as much damage as it could without demanding a trip to the emergency room as possible to a right hand.

We still got about eighty percent accomplished of what I wanted to get done for the day. The wrist and hand are still swollen but not as bad as they were last night.

The upside of it is my right hand doesn't look near as old or weathered as the left. The downside is it's a lot more sensitive about things.

What we had to do was finish gouging out the opening in the second log and then drill the holes for attaching the logs to each other. This involved using the drill with a one and a half inch forstener bit going in six inches, ouch, that hurt when it bound up about five inches into six.

We're only using three eighths lags eight inches long but we're using inch and a half washers for grip.

Then it was time to prepare the steel posts for the wood posts.

One of the steel posts is the hinge side.

Once that post was up the fun began.

My camera ran out of memory so we got another one as we started the hinge side.

Keep in mind it was cold, really cold for north Texas, middle thirties with a breeze, I was gimped up with a damaged wing, and there had to be adjustments.

But we got a lot done when you look at the big picture. Tomorrow we get the rest of posts up and the overhead installed.

You really have to watch out for those 1/2" drills they can cause a lot of damage!

:D

I have seen a lot of cedar entrances, but not one looks that the ones you are building. None of the post are cut in together, it will definitely grab that second glance, puzzled look of the people who drive by as they try to figure out "How was that done".
