Okay, Harv. You've had enough time to build the gates and we want to see an update with detailed pictures of the hanging and all. I want to see how the powder coating came out. My last gate was 15 feet and sagged less than 1/8 of an inch so the pressure is on. ;)

Gary, nice gate, real purty.

A couple of points for you to consider though.

1. Here in Texas we don't put stars in our gates. We put them in the overheads.

2. We don't do stars in steel. We do them in stone.

Here's a link for the colors we're going to be using http://www.qualitypowdercoating.com/docs/brochure2.pdf

I haven't taken many pictures lately, full plate and all that.

But Gary I thought you'd appreciate the way I'm coping, fish mouthing if you will, the four inch galvanized conduit I'm using in the two gates.

The saw horses are mine. They're the darnedest things to keep. It seems every time I make a pair they disappear and I've got to make more.

Good to see you have started on the gate(s). I used 1 1/4" electrical conduit for the verticals in my last gate. The main frame was heavier, but the conduit gave the gate a thick look while keeping the weight down and it turned out sturdy as a rock ;)

Make sure you add some details about your material selection as you post pictures. We are looking forward to it.

Hmmmm, great minds think alike.

The four inch o.d. tubing I'm using is rigid electrical conduit. If it was pipe it'd be three and a half inch about twelve gauge and come in twenty one foot lengths instead of twenty foot lengths.

The staircase entryway homeowner decided to not go with powdercoating so I was able to weld it up which simplified it a lot. On the big timber gate I'm having to do a lot of detail work to make it doable. It's one of those where I'm problem solving every step of the way and in that pain/pleasure zone where I thrive. I'm sure you're aware of it, that place where you're frustrated while at the same time you're having a tough time waiting for the finished product to appear.

Dang it Harv! QUIT SHOWING ME THIS STUFF!

Love the sawhorses, I have a feeling a pair maybe showing up at the Circle B ranch before too long :D

I assume from the shots, the fishmouths were done with what I think was a Dewalt Porta Band I think I saw in the corner of the pics. I think the pattern looked plasma'd.

So, was the porta band cleaner for the subsequent weld then the plasma or why choose one over the other? Or the galv and the health consequences?

As always, Great work. I think you need a one week apprentice next fall when the heat breaks (if it ever does)

I'm still trying to figure the Carl's Jr. connection... does the guy raise beef for the burger outfit?

[FONT='Times New Roman','serif']Hi
Harv I Enjoy reading your project postings, And I think I'm addicted because it痴 been several days since your last post and I'm starting to get the shakes. I for one really appreciate the time you spend documenting and posting pictures of your projects for our pleasure. You are truly one of a kind, are you training anyone to wear your shoes when you decide to retire?

Thanks

We're okay Don. Just a little overwhelmed with all the stuff coming down up here.

We've got stuff happening high and low.

On the high side we had a person at the A & M research center here in Dallas ask us to come up with a theme for their fencing. They're getting ready to take this facility from an active but not too public one to allegedly THE place for plant genetics.

For me that was a no brainer. Genetics = DNA, right?

So I had to get some stuff together that would bend pipe into a helix.
