In the case of LB, he wasted $20K in my eyes, which would have been better spent on one larger tractor, but apparently he sees something in the value of it the rest of us don't.

Alright, could you please explain that statement?? My needs, and your needs and LBrown's needs are all different. One bigger tractor is not suited for smaller jobs. A tractor for each specific application is better. And if you can swing a deal (some dealers call these multi-unit discounts) then I say got for it, because I would. Putting too many hours on one piece of equipment is not a good thing, for one you chew up your warranty hours too quick, and you will have some major work or even replacement costs sooner than expected.

I can't explain this guys quote, but he does say in "His eyes". Now I don't think Lbrown is going to run up alot of hours on his machines. He saves time not changing implements, but how much time does he save doing maintanance on 3-5 machines. I bet he only puts 15 hours a year on each machine. JC

In your sig, it says you are looking for a tiller and a dump trailer? You looking at a hydraulic dumper for you JD? We have had some thoughts on building one, but wondered how much cheaper it would actually be compared to buying one, as far as for all the hydraulics that would have to be purchased.

May start another thread on that one.

Thanks,

Will

There you go Will. Two responses that explain what I'm saying perfectly.

Honestly, I'd like to hear from LB on the issue. I've read a couple months of posts on how great it is having three equivalent tractors but I can't say I've read one explanation for it. Again, non-commercial usage. How many hours does each have? How many acres are you working on? What implements are attached to which machine? What other implements are owned/used?

Putting too many hours on one piece of equipment is not a good thing, for one you chew up your warranty hours too quick, and you will have some major work or even replacement costs sooner than expected.
BUT, this statement is pure nonsense. If you need to use your equipment, you HAVE to put hours on it. And if you split the hours between two machines, then you've just paid double to replace the machines in twice the time. So you're exactly in the same place!!! Except you had more maintenance, more up front payments, and have two older machines instead of one newer one (since the only way of caring about the warranty is having newer equipment). And if you're replacing both machines as the warranty runs out... that just means you're always paying double so you don't put hours on them. Certainly it costs less to repair whats wrong with the one than to buy and maintain two!

Also, you do know the guy has THREE tractors two of which are the same, right? Assuming he paid $10K each for them, I'm saying it would be of greater general value to keep the small one you need and purchase a larger one for $15K-$20K.

For example, if he needs a small mower and a backhoe, chances are he'd be better off keeping the small mower and getting one larger backhoe than having three tractors of the same size. Heck, at the prices we're talking about, you could have QA backhoes on the smaller and larger tractors and hence have WAY more different ways to use them.

For example two, I think LB mentioned he and his wife mow at the same time. Seems to me one larger tractor with a larger mower taking care of the open areas and one smaller tractor for the difficult spots would still be better. [And in this scenario, the X7xx would be an ideal tractor for the dedicated smaller work.]

Again, _I_ can't see how three equivalent tractors serves any non-commercial use. And I'd still like to hear how I'm wrong too.

My 3 tractors work great together as a team.
One larger tractor does not a team make.
In my case it's about team work versatility and convenience.
Obtaining all that at the lowest dollar spent was my goal.
It just so happened that the 3 kubotas accomplished that objective.
It had nothing to do with JD vs Kubota or 3 similar tractors or 3 different size or types of tractors.

I have to agree with this point. It is nice to use one that does the mowing job, and then get on another to do loader or grading work, and another to do backhoe work, etc...

The above usually involves more $$. Like having convenience is more important to some, saving $$ is more important to others. Some of us are willing to spend a few $$ more to obtain extra features, capability, or convenience.

Well then maybe get a lawn tractor for the mowing (guess that is what the BX1500 is, it's the size of a lawn mower) and a real tractor for the loader, plowing and 3pt hitch stuff. But 3 of the same tractors??? I don't know...

One Green makes a team. I know, I have two Greens, but they play in different leagues. JC

Hi, All,

I've been looking at the 749 and the 748. I like the 4wd/aws of the 749,
but dislike the 62" deck compared to the 60" 7-Iron. I have owned both
decks with the mulch kit and the 7-Iron just beats the 62" in any
demand (thick, wet grass; 12" tall weeds; fall leaves). Allot less
blow-out, clumping, etc.

Naturally, the 7-Iron is only available on the 748. I wish Deere will
only offer the 7-Iron series decks - I feel they are so superior to the
their other offerings - but, I'd like a winning PowerBall ticket too.

Just my thoughts....

Lon
