Thoughts on using a Dump Trailer for hauling my Kubota?

Pat

thanks for the information.

I know an F150 is rated that high for towing, but really would be difficult to control anywhere near that weight.

I also figured the volume of the trailer is greater than the rated load for some material. I imaging dirt or gravel filled trailer would overload the capacity.

I plan on learning what a B2320 FEL carries full if dirt or gravel, those are the primary things I want to move around. That will allow me to meter how much I put in the trailer.

I am considering a Rhino liner for increased life. I know gravel and things will wear it as it does the paint if left original. I am also curious of the liner would limit the flow of dumping, a smooth surface will slide better.

Is is legal to leave the FEL or BH on top of the trailer sides or over the back?

I own a 12' Kiefer built dump trailer. I love it for the multitasking. I haul the skid loader, mowers, and soon my new baby( Kioti-DK45S). This trailer has been a real worksaver for me. Would have loved a 14' one but the price was right. Go with the dump trailer.

Looks like Kiefer doesn't make dumps anymore? I checked their website.

are they good?

In Indiana you can have something sticking out 4' by law as long as it flagged in daylight hours.

As for loading the hoe in the truck forget it. Its too high to lift with that little Kabota and it will put way too much weight on the rear axle of the truck.

My uncle has a 14,000# 14' Bri-mar dump trailer that he pulls with his 2008 F-150 and before that his 2005 Expedition. Its all that truck wants in the tongue weight dept but it pulls it ok short distances. The trailer is 4,200# empty. The longer trailer does allow for more load flexibility and weight distribution.

JWN,
Try here:Welcome to Kiefer Industrial.
I paid 2k for mine used and needing a little bit of tlc a couple years back. They have the single cyl. scissor under them. I like the PJ's too. All pretty good manufacturers. Get the heaviest built one you can and you'll never have to buy one again.

I am trying to have my cake and eat it too.

I don't want a long trailer for storage reasons and lost towing capacity.

I really only want a 12' trailer.

how does one figure out the load distribution? I assume when hauling a tractor loader, there is not much room to adjust distribution.

I have my spec guide for my 2005 F150 super crew 5.4 V8. max towing is 9200, but no mention of how much the hitch can hold.

Where can I find out how much the BH65 attachment weighs?

Load balance all comes down to trailer length. The only way you can adjust your load with a item like a tractor is by moving it forward or backward. On a 1/2 ton truck this is very important but not so much on a F-350 or other 1 ton. Its a balancing act.

As for your hitch ratings it will be posted on the hitch itself. Usually somewhere around 7,500# and 750# of tongue weight without a weight distribution hitch and 10,000# and 1,000# with one.

It should be in the specs of the manufacturer's web site. I pull mine with a 2000 f150 7700. Hitch rating for most recievers on these trucks is a class V. 10000lbs GTW and 1200 hitch. Anything that you get needs to have trailer brakes.

Diamond is right on on the heavier the truck the less it matters, or should I say- less critical. A dually makes up for alot of deficiencies.

Once off the ground my equipment seems to double in size. Using my BIL backhoe trailer to move the 265 MF with a heavy 7' bush hog I had negative tougue weight.

Since I was pulling it with the F700 with 16' dumping flat bed I managed it for the 15 mile trip but was drawn up in a knot about the hitch holding.

Yesterday we bought an old triple axle 25' flat trailer but it is 32" high with 7' ramps. The trailer is heavy due to I-Beam construction. A small bank to back up to or a shallow ditch/dip to drop the wheels into can help lower ramp risks.

Both of our tractors are 60 HP and heavy so getting forward to get proper tongue weight is critical in our case and a FEL can be a limiting factor. With the pintle hitch I prefer about max tongue weight which is just a fraction of the weight the 1989 Ford F700 can handle. This is not an ideal set up due to size but can work for that once in a blue moon trip to the shop, etc.
