Time to Chain Up the Kubota

/ Time to Chain Up the Kubota #11
I have very tight clearance(about 2" to the vertical fender/ROPS support) with the one piece rims on my DK35 with R4's but am able to make them work by installing the chains with tensioners. Chains are a necessity for my winter conditions so I would have installed spacers had I not been able to make them work otherwise.

First off, I'm from Kentucky. Saw the heading about chaining up a Kubota????:confused::eek::eek:....I've owned a lot of Kubotas and never had to chain any of them up. So, I'm wondering...does he have people trying to steal his Kubota and he's chaining it to keep the thieves from getting it??:thumbdown::confused: or DOES HE HAVE A KUBOTA THAT'S GONE WILD:eek::eek::eek: so I open the thread to see which one of these two possibilities has caused this man to have to have to chain his Kubota up.:confused: Discovered a third possibility that doesn't come to the mind of a southern Ky owner or at least not mine.:D Go forth and chain they guy up.

Heh, heh, judging from the meteorologists as well as the Farmer's Almanac, I'm betting this winter will bring So. KY some serious snow. :)

I resorted to making my own chains using a small gauge chain for the sides so it would not rub the fenders. I might try welding steel winch cable to the cross links if I make a set for the even tighter fron tires., just not sure it will make them brittle like soldering wire.

8" right now (10:00pm)& it's supposed to snow until daybreak.

:) Grandson rode my new old car yesterday. Wanted to see top down, it was a nice day. So, after figuring out how to do it, pull emergency brake and pull button back I put the top down. Had asked him a couple of times earlier in the day if he still wanted the truck or the car and he stuck with truck. Told him I'll give him my Toyota Tacoma with currently 3000 miles and a year and a half old when he gets old enough. Riding with the top down he has decided the car may be the better deal since it can be with or without top. Told him car couldn't haul "stuff" or pull the tractor but think he's really leaning toward car now.:D
it's 32 now and a dusting of snow on the ground with the rest of the week in the 50s. Seen some conflicting weather reports for my part of Ky this coming winter. Glad I have the RTV1140 and the BX25D either way.

I was thinking about getting chains for my L 3800 until I found out I would need spacers.
$ for chains plus $$ for spacer blocks.
You would think the engineers at Kubota would have thought of wheel design to allow additional clearance.
Does anyone know if they have made any changes to the wheels or is this only an issue with R4s?

I agree with you 100%. Kubota--and all tractor makers--should give minimum of 2'' clearance around rear wheels, assuming that these are utility tractors and the operator may have to run chains. There is a red tractor dealer near me and all their tractors provide this clearance.

Usually, tight clearance issues show up with R-4s and R-3s. I have not heard of them showing up with R-1s.

I haven't had to think about chains, yet. The B2650 will push a lot of snow in 2wd, pop it in 4wd and she's a beast! I hope I don't need chains!

Some places can do without. But without chains my tractor just sits and spins in 4WD. I think the moisture level of the snow really determines if you need them or not.

It's definitely circumstantial.
