Thought that I would throw up this shot of my B3030 when we caught a 30" snow storm here last winter. I chained up all 4 wheels for insurance. Like they say in the credit card commercial--the value of the chains and blower were priceless.

Some places can do without. But without chains my tractor just sits and spins in 4WD. I think the moisture level of the snow really determines if you need them or not.

agreed. wet snow seems especially bad because it's heavy to push AND it packs into my turf tires rendering them totally useless without chains.

our driveway is on a pretty decent grade so rear chains stay on all winter. i never felt the need for front chains, which is probably good as i have to imagine that they would mark up the pavement a good bit.

i run rear spacers. it makes chain install/removal SO much easier!

Actually, AStanton, the chains have been on the B2620 for a couple weeks now, but it is your picture of your leaf box that I'm more interested in right now. Now that I think of it, I spend more time and hard work removing leaves around this old place than on snow. How's that working out? Or should I search for a leaf box thread?
Cheers,
Mike

Oldballs,
I know that the leaf scoop looks Mickey Mouse. I made it out of scrap lumber. I level it to the ground and rake leaves into it for easy dumping. Then when I move firewood, it gives me probably 3-x's the capacity of my bucket. I posted some pics before with the dimensions. If you make one, leave about 1/2" clearance on the ends. The sides tend to swell out and the whole thing gets stuck in the bucket.

Thank You so much AStanton....I'm going to copy your work for now and try and get the box built before next fall.

Oldballs,
There's no right or wrong way to make one, just have at it. In calculating the amount of firewood mine can move, I figure it moves about 1/6 of a cord modestly filled.

Is the only thing that holds it in the chain wrapped around the bucket hook? That's pretty nifty.

Yes, that's correct. I had to beef up the mid section of the cross brace twice because it had cracked. I could always add a fastener to each end. But I prefer the KISS motto: keep it simple stupid.

Ordered inch and a half spacers for the front and two inch spacers on the rear for my new BX25D-1. I used chains on the front and rear of my old BX25 and there was "just" enough clearance for ladder chains. Had 4 link ladders on the rear and 2 link ladders on the front. Just ordered Helene chains from the Trygg company in Norway. It will take a couple months to get them. Am preparing for next year. Will use what I have to get by this winter. The chains and spacers add a grand to the tractor cost. But I can eat snow for a few more months. Wife traded me in for a new model, so I traded the tractor in for a new model too.
