Massey Ferguson 2615 48hp, 4wd, loader
The MF 2615 I just bought was supposed to come with 13.6x28 rears, according to Massey's website. In reality it showed up with 14.9x24's. Compared to my 231s with 13.6x28 there is a noticable difference in size. The 2615 is 48 horsepower and 4wd, the 231s is 45 hp and 2wd.
I would think that smaller tires might give you more power amd less speed but less traction than the taller tires. My concern is moving snow.
Is there some other advantage to the smaller tires on a bigger machine?

Did the fronts match what was on the website? There is a relationship in size front to rear that has to be maintained on a 4x4. Did you get the same type of tire as the website only smaller, or get R4s instead of R1s?

Main advantage I see is lower center of gravity. Not sure how the footprint compares, the smaller diameter tire will have a shorter one, but it will be wider too.

My preference would be the shorter tires. My 6415 came with 34" rears, I would have been happy with 30"

Big tractors definateley pull better on taller tyres !

As the width on the tire increases so does the side wall height. On the Massey 1652 you have the option of 16.9 x 24 or 13.6 x 28. Both options have the same front tires. So the rear to front tire ratio must be the same. You only get a difference size footprint. I would go with the taller tires.

Did you contact your dealer about this. They may of ordered it wrong and may be able to bring in the size you wanted.

End of last year Massey had a promotion on their utility tractors. You got a $5,000 discount on the tractor for cash and they threw in a FEL for free. The deal was too sweet to pass up. It ended January 1st and the only machines that were available had 14.9x24s. Dealer had to drive 5 hours to get mine. According to Massey there wouldn't be any 2615s available with the taller tires until late February. I did have my choice between R1's and R4's. As I do a lot finish mowing I went with R4's as I saw them being easier on turf when making turns.

This is why they are smaller. The 13.6-28 size is traditionally only a R1 size, I doubt they even make R4s that tall and narrow.
