I'd take the bullet too. Not because I doubt the quality of these other brands. Kioti and Mahindra look very appealing to me. The issue is price and dealership availability. There are no dealers in this area with these brands. As far as price, when I was looking for a no frills 40-50 hp 4wd tractor, Kubota had the least expensive thing I could find (L4400), even cheaper than the JD 990. So it was a no brainer.

To those of you that love your JD, NH, MF or KBs, I ask this question. IF someone put a gun to your head and insisted you pick a tractor that is NOT a JD, NH, MF or KB, which would you pick?

I'm not an owner of anything yet, but my grandfather had JDs only. But since I asked the question, I'll say Kioti.
I'll second your opinion; Kioti is a lot of tractor for the money, with many features that are standard, while options on others. Unfortunately, the closest dealer in my area is a complete jerk, and I am surprised Kioti has allowed him to keep the dealership? As a second tractor, I ended up buying another Kubota. Kioti definitely has quality tractors!

Mahindra. Lotsa good things about these Asian tractors (heavy construction, good welds, strong engine, etc). I looked at Mahindra before buying a Kubota. Liked the fact that Mahindra's main tractor mfg plants in India have an ISO 9001 rating.

You have more faith in the ISO 9001 stamps of approval than I do. I have been audited many times for ISO approval and they are a joke. The inspectors see only what the company wants them to see.

Is the gun wielder paying the bill? If so, I'd look hard at the Holder; they make more than the municipal tractors we're used to seeing.

Color is no indication of quality or reliability, otherwise I'd paint my 'Bota up like an old 8N Ford.;):D
