Since it doesn't seem like we are sticking strictly to compact tractors, my choice would be the JCB Fastrac 8250... http://www.jcbamericas.com/files/docs/Fastrac 8250 Spec Sheet.pdf

Standard Equipment:
280hp Cummins "QSC" 8.3 liter, Turbo-charged & Intercooled 6-Cylinder Diesel Engine
42 mph Top Speed in High Range (28 mph in Low Range)
Two-Range Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) w/6 Modes of Operation
Five-Link Front Suspension / Self-Leveling Rear Suspension
Four-Wheel Air over Hydraulic, Twin Caliper ABS Brakes

Optional Equipment: (that I would order)
Pirelli Tires
Radar & Performance Monitor
Deluxe Heated Driver's Seat
Heated Front & Rear Windows w/Heated & Electric Mirrors

I myself like my massey, but if I were to have another choice I'd prob. go with the one no-one has mentioned McCormick, the english still make a great product

Sadly, the British McCormick plant is now closing. Production has begun to shift entirely to Italy. Read that in "TRACTOR & Machinery Magazine". (Printed in England)

I liked the NH alot, they just did not have a unit out of the box that was comparable to my MF. Actually as far as that goes, the green and the orange were pretty nice as well. If I had to do it again.... I would still by red though. In fact that would probably make a better topic..." What color do you have now and what would you do different and why" ;)

I'd take the bullet too. Not because I doubt the quality of these other brands. Kioti and Mahindra look very appealing to me. The issue is price and dealership availability. There are no dealers in this area with these brands. As far as price, when I was looking for a no frills 40-50 hp 4wd tractor, Kubota had the least expensive thing I could find (L4400), even cheaper than the JD 990. So it was a no brainer.

Shoot me too. I do doubt the quality of other brands and am SURE the resale of said brands X is terrible.

I like the looks of Mahindra, Kioti. Like it or not for some of you die hard folks for older US name brands, the world is changing. Some of the newcomers into the U.S. market will be here for a long time (my opinion). CNN business has a topic today on signing trade agreement with S. Korea South Korea, U.S. agree last-minute trade deal - Apr. 2, 2007

It would most likely be between Mahindra and Kioti.

But you never know, we still have a lot of horse drawn plows and hay equipment so a couple of nice Percherons...

I would also pick Case or Challenger next, but that's really like picking NH or MF and since they are "on the list" -- I'll go with Kioti or Deutz... availablity and dealer proximity would an issue with both of these though.

Interesting that noone has mentioned Montana....

If I did not choose NH, JD, Kubota, or Massey/Agco/Cahllenger, I would go with the best dealer support from what's left. I have Montana. Kioti, and Mahindra within driving distance of my house. Of those three I would personally go with either Kioti or Mahindra. Kioti under 40 HP and Mahindra over 40 HP.
