Made nine metal pots for my wife's flowers. It took me about 2 hours to make one. When designing the pots I estimated less than an hour to make one but a lot of time was lost by fitting the pieces together and measuring and cutting the bar for the stand. Looks like I will have to make more for friends, friends of friends etc. The original cut patterns resulted only in a minimal waste of metal making six pots from 48X96 sheet. The pots have large top surface relative to volume so watering might be critical. The new pattern will make three little larger but much deeper pots and will be much easier to assemble.

Very nice and pretty yard. Is your home a metal building?

Yes. We live in a Morton barn converted to a house. My wife put a lot of effort and skills in the yard. She is the planner and money spender I am the money maker and hole digger.

Those are very cool... please post material details. Thinks I should make a few for our deck.

The material is steel plate 0.125 x 48.5 X 96.5 and the stand is made from .25 x 1 steel bar. They are made from plates I purchased to make something else so the thickness is little overkilled. Since there is demand for the pots I will buy thiner plates for the next batch.

Do you or your wife see any pitfalls in the metal construction?

a few of us are up early...
Morton has an excellent reputation from my experience. I would think insulation is important in a metal building for obvious reasons but also for sound deadening.
When the temps change and the sun hits the metal, I wonder about a lot of expansion noises.

No. The building is made of wood. Just the siding and roof are metal. It requires zero maintenance. We live in it 13 years and so far had no issues whatsoever. The beauty of such building is there are no supporting walls. You get one big cavern and you can place the walls wherever you want. The bad thing is your mobile will not work inside without a repeater.

You are right there were some ticking noises first few years but lately, I don't notice any. The walls are R19 plus maybe R1 for the drywall. The ceiling is R30. The attic temperature drops to ambient within about 30 minutes after the sun goes down. In our previous house it was hot for few hours after the sunset. Rain or hail noise is as low as in normal house.

Please explain the roof/truss design... you say you can place the walls wherever... I am assuming you have a truss design, span?

When the building was completed the space under the roof was 48 x 90. Morton specified width had to be in multiples of 12' and length in multiples of 1'.
