I thought I'd show us guys my reedneck improvised tonneau cover. It works pretty slick. All I did was use stove bolts to attach unistrut on both sides and the front of the box. I slide a precut sheet of 3/4" treated plywood and shazzm there you go. I put a cheap roof rack from some car from the wreckers($5). The roof rack allows me to tie larger items on top. If I don't need the roof rack, I just flip the sheet over than its smooth. Although there is no weather strip on it I find stuff stays pretty dry anyways.

I don't know if I'd do it on a brand new $50K truck, but its be on for about ten or more years and works great, one "upgade" or change might be to cut the sheet in three seperate pieces, that way you could just pull them out and stack them in the box beside your large item.

For security, its a theft proof as the lock on your tailgate. Keeps honest people honest.

I have had an Access soft roll up cover on my Frontier since it was new in 06. One of the better investments I have made. Installed easily and has held up extremely well. Company backed the product even when it was not their fault. Had body work done and the shop placed a rag with a solvent/acid on it and placed the rag on the cover by accident. Discolored the cover and Access replaced the cover free of charge and free shipping. I decided to get one for my Dad and installed it on his Tundra. He loves it. Good luck.

I put in a offer on a 2006 Ram 3500 Diesel the other day. It had a cover that rolled up like a roll top desk or roll up garage door. It was pretty slick but did take up about a foot of the bed near the cab.

Did it have aluminum slats covered with vinyl? If so have a read of my post above about my Jackrabbit. They are a real PITA especially in the winter between the freezing guide rails and the freezing, vertically facing lock mechanism.. That 1' of missing bed doesnt seem like much, but in practice it ruins the functionality of the bed. For somebody that lives in Florida and doesnt use all 8' of their bed, they are ok, for anyone else, not so much!!

Yea, I think that is the one. Does not really matter though. I could not bring myself to buying the truck for what he wanted. It just was not worth it or the chance for me. I can see how problems could occur though. It probably would have been the third thing to come off after the cheap diamond plate running boards that were on it and the smallish 265 tires.

When you are folding / unfolding the hard covers, can it be done by one person standing beside the bed? All the videos show someone on each side of the truck.

Works from one side easily!

The Bakflip cover I had used shocks to keep it pushed against the rear window, and had a thick soft rubber strip that rode against the rear glass to cushision it. And yes, one person could open it. It had latches for both side of the truck but they were connected, so you just reached in, grabbed the cord and pulled, and both sides came unlatched.

Roll and lock I assume. That means if they put it in right you have 2 extra holes in the bed of your truck for the drains. Unlees you have plug holes in which case those have holes in them. Never did like the roll series. Too much depreciation to the vehicle after screwing and drilling all over it.

I had one, and if I had to drill any holes, they were small ones, and as I recall, just two. The rest just clamped on. The box drained through some hoses that I stuffed in the existing drain holes at the front of the bed.
