There are additives that are not solvents. Is Lucas UCL a solvant, no!

So you are saying that if I were to add 20 drops of diesel fuel to Lucas UCL, it would solidify and fall to the bottom or float on top? I rather think that it would disperse uniformly throughout -- AKA dissolve completely. Yes? No?

If Yes, then it is a solvent.

I stand by my statement - ALL diesel additives are solvents.

I talked to a Power Service rep a while back about this very thing. i use PS white bottle to lower the cloud point in my BioD i asked how much i could use. I was told that i could double even triple dose and all would be fine. but he did say that the effects of power service go down as you increse the ratios.. i.e. if you do a standard dose and it lower the gel point 30 degrees well you would think that a double dose would lower it 60 right?? nope it will only lower it about 45 degrees. i will try and find the e-mail and post it up

WHAT%%%##$**?????

If you double or triple or quadruple the dose it doesn't have a linear effect of doubling, tripling, or quadrupling the positive effects?

Who wouldda thought......:D

Howes Lubricator: Products..another non-solvant

Have you used Lucas UCL? if you did you would know this.

I'm not sure why any additives are needed, I use straight diesel. If you know it's gonna sit for a while, don't fill it up before the winter. Additives are a big business and most probably are not needed. IMO they just add to the cost of operation....in the name of 8% better mileage.

Is this tractor a 3 cylinder or 4 cylinder? If it's an inside cylinder then heat was probably a factor. Many things could cause the heat. Once a piston goes all heck breaks loose!

Got Pics? :d

Hi ! For me I think first BAD INJECTOR Please discard this faulty. dont take chance. Second as for octane buster can affect timing on gas engines. I think CETANE buster (I dont know PowerService) can affect or change timing on diesel engines. One bad injector can make big trouble on diesel engine. Timing on fuel injection pump is very important. Water in fuel is also dangerous. With good clean winter diesel fuel I dont use additive. Thanks and good luck! Oldmech

Could also be the service tech was told by the service manager to suggest too much additive was used to place the blame on the owner/operator so they could fend-off any warranty claims.

don't eleive there would be any warrrenty claims on a 25 yr.old tractor.:D

Dude, please go to the dictionary and look up the word "solvent".

This is one I quickly found;

Solvent
n.
Chemistry
A substance in which another substance is dissolved, forming a solution.
A substance, usually a liquid, capable of dissolving another substance.

Unless you are telling me that the UCL you use stays in 2 separate layers when mixed with diesel, then UCL is a solvent. That means that it forms a solution of UCL and diesel. Note the definition of "Solvent" above. It's black and white dictionary definition stuff.

From the Howes web site -
Diesel Treat continues to be North America痴 leading brand of Anti-Gel, guaranteed to keep you from gelling, or we pay your tow! Experience the following benefits or we refund your money: Increased power & MPG痴, Cleaning and Lubricating of fuel injectors, Fuel filters lasting up to three times longer and the harmless removal of water. Contains highly refined petroleum ingredients with no alcohol, harmful solvents, sulfur or ash. Will not void any engine manufacturer痴 warranty.

Note it has no HARMFUL solvents. That means IT CONTAINS helpful solvents.

I use the Howes Diesel Treat it works well, I don't use the Lucas Products.
