I decided to use KennyD's iMatch Chain Box (Bolt on Hooks) to hold a few tools . . . wish they were bigger, and I'm considering attaching two of the boxes side by side to hold more, but it would be easier if Ken would just make a bigger one with the same attachment setup.

Roy,
We're neighbors! Here is the link: John Deere iMatch™ Accessories - BoltOnHooks LLC
Just scroll down and you will see them. I have a pair on both of my JD Tractors - JD4310 & JD 4052R.
I'm in Northern Maine.

Send an Email to the web site owner - Ken, ask him to Email you when the chain boxes are back in stock . . . he has other things for the JD tractors . . . he has helped me with hydraulic information . . .
you picked a great tractor, but I'm biased!

What I've found to make connecting PTO shaft to the tractor PTO easier is to remove the shield (PTO guard) from the tractor.
To me, just something else "in the way".
Keep thinking there should be a tool like a lever that will assist pushing the PTO shaft forward onto the stub while at the same time holding the spring-loaded collar back. The combination of pushing the shaft forward while pulling the collar backward will test the arm strength for sure.
Anyone have an idea or a method that works for them?
What I did was replace the spring in the collar with a softer one. That made attaching my 660 rototiller a lot easier.
Sounds like a good idea, and I will make a note of that.
Do you have a suggestion where to look for a softer replacement? maybe McMaster Carr would be a place to look?
