I have been pushing dirt around and trying to level out some places with my Bx24. I have a Woods 48" box scraper attached. The scarifiers on the box scraper seem to do a resaonable job of breaking up the clay soil, but every once in awhile I try to use the loader bucket to cut into the soil to level out a place, but it is not as efficient at cutting into the ground as the scarifiers on the BB.

It seems toothbars on the loader bucket would help some, but I am not sure they would help enough to make the investment worth it. Are toothbars and box scraper scarifiers the same tool for digging in and leveling out?
Thanks

They are not the same tool.

I am really happy to have put a toothbar on my FEL bucket. It has turned the bucket from being relatively useless for digging into a very effective tool. I wouldn't have believed the difference except for reading of the experiences of others on this forum.

Which would be better depends on what you want to do. I recently built a small section of road where I needed to cut an embankment on one side and fill on the other. It went really well using my FEL. I was able to keep working in front of me keeping the tractor relatively level as I worked along. The terrain was much too steep to get the tractor in with a box blade - might have been able to do it with a box blade but much easier with the FEL. On the other hand, you are not going to get finish grade with a toothbar on the FEL(or at least I won't) - will still need a box blade or rear blade.

I am a big fan of toothbars - it has been my best purchase to date for my tractor. For the relatively low cost, it makes a huge difference in the ability to dig with the FEL.

Hope this helps.

Come to think of it, I can't remember one person who has a toothbar ever saying it was a mistake buying it!

I love mine too. Comes off easy when I need a flat lower lip...but stays on most of the time.

Anybody regret buying their toothbar? Please speak up! :)

Good points all ...I have acquired a lot of tools the past few years. Some I use often, others I just use every once in a while. When I need a seldom used took, then it is good to have them because they save the time of coming up with a work around. That makes the tool worth it for me. Sounds as if the toothbar is one of those tools that when you have it, then it is worth the convenience. I can probably live without it, but more options might open up with it . Thanks again.

No regrets here. When I need it I need it and it works great. When I don't need it it doesn't take up much space in the equipment shed.

Nope, don't regret buying mine. I take it off during "mulch" time and leave it on the rest of the year since I do not use my loader for snow removal. :)

My bottom bucket edge has just a slight little smile to it. Does that make it hard, or impossible to install a tooth bar?

N80,
IMO, you'd be better off to straighten the bucket lip first. There are several threads describing various methods to do so. Then put the toothbar on.
