Torch problem

   / Torch problem #21
I bought a bunch of torch stuff at an auction five or so years back. Finally got one of those scrappers torches three feet long. that I always wanted and have little need for. But it's BOSS! Works good! Now I can put on my shorts and flip-flops and cut apart Ships! What didn't work so good was a regulator that burst one of my better hoses!

Burst hose?

   / Torch problem #23
Yeah. Regulator wasn't doing it's job.

The guy on I C Weld uses a shorter but still long cutting torch than Industrial Toys, for field repair. I don't think it's a scrapper's torch. If anyone knows why it's as long as it is, please let me know.

A typical setting (and a good starting place) for Acetylene is 7 lbs and Oxygen 14 lbs. If the torches have been sitting for a time it may be necessary to purge the air out of the lines first - the longer the hoses the more of an issue is since there can be a significant amount of air in the lines. When you purge the acetylene hold the tip where you can see across the tip. When acetylene starts to come out you can actually see the "invisible" gas as it distorts the air. When both are purged try lighting and see how it works. Sometimes that gland nut (under the valves on the torch body) will loosen and the valves will turn too easy or respond to being bumped. Tighten these down a BIT - not real tight - and the torch will hold the valve position better.

you're very lucky it wasn't the acetylene regulator that failed, that would cause a huge explosion!.. acetylene self explodes I believe at 18 psi..

So, how you figure dat pocket of acetylene between top of filler in tank and valve not blow up since it above hundred pound pressure?

   / Torch problem #28
I used to siphon (not really the right word) off half a bottle or so of acetylene from friends tanks who had a contract. I still have the hose assembly. Funny how old timers just knew their way around things. Nowadays everything is just ready to explode if you don't abide by SOPs.

This was offered up to my on YT/Apple TV yesterday. Kind of Interesting.

Danger of Gas Cylinders We will show you their power / Stay safe - YouTube Kind of funny. Video about safety. Never mind sideswiping something with the cylinder on the bike and shearing off the valve.

I kind of wish my various cylinders were nowhere near my buildings, never mind inside. But that's highly impractical.

Oh, Long Torch is nice for cutting stuff apart. Not so much bending down and you are not so close when stuff spits back at you.

the secret is acetone!..

Really? Do tell how dat works.

While you at it splain why city of Speedway Indiana exists.
Dey interrelated.

Maybe you can tell bout de dual carbon bond in Acetylene and how dat comes apart all by itself and causes BOOM.

IT, word you huntin is Cascade. Been doin it long time wid Propane, Argon, Co2, Nitrogen & Helium, even know enough to not hotshot bottle. Talkin to old goat at supply house one time bout doin to fill MC bottles. He points out few things to me bout Acetylene includin how dey don't do in house, and says I insist let him know so he can come and watch, thru binocular glasses from long way back. Decided maybe he right. New fill plants pretty darn smart, can almost overcome dumb bottle wrestler.
