Torn BX24 tie rod boot = $47?

I've used super glue many times to repair these ball joint boots and drive shaft boots on front wheel drive cars. Take the boot off and get the broken edges super clean. I use brake clean on a rag. Then super glue the broken edges together. Lasts a long time.
If you can get a new one that's best.
One caution to those who are wrapping the joint with another material - If your wrap leaks and water gets into the joint this will cause rust over time. Probably worse than leaving the boot torn.

That's why I used inner tube mateiral.

At first, I thought of wrapping a strip around the old boot and using silicon automotive glue (called "Goop") to glue the edges of the new wrap together and then using two tie wraps.

Turned out it was pretty easy to unthread the outer end (counting turns and also measuring from the lock nut to the un-threaded edge), then reassemble it after pulling the un-cut innter tube over the torn boot.

Next experiment is to see if I can make a protector out of radiator hose material and fasten it to the large portion of the inner joint (where I have my inner tie wrap for the repair sleeve (see pics earlier in this thread). Won't be a slick as the metal guards, but easier for us non-welders to do.

Milkman - a teflon (apparently) seal / knuckle at what i believe is the tie rod on my BX200 has broken, resulting in some play on my left front wheel. Is that joined to the tie rod? or is it the tie rod? Any advice on how to fix? It looks exactly like the photo you posted. I had to remove the rubber boot rings (easy) to see the damage.

I got tired of messing with them and just removed them 200hrs and about 2.5 yrs ago. Joints still tight and works fine... Prob not the most popular solution though.

 My boots have been gone for 9 years. Idly worrying about it has been effective so far. 1500+ hrs later the joints are still tight. I would rate idle worry as the most time, and therefore $, efficient response. When they get a lot of play over the years, then just replace them.

Cantcha just imagine Kubota ... "A boot here will comfort the user and if they tear off during warrantee and internal damage happens well blame no boot and wont fix it free." ;);)Well sell the un needed replacement repetitively for $$$$.

If this is the pic you are referring to, the part in the orange square is the part that comes with the new boot. It screws off the power steering cylinder and out of the tie rod, in the parts book, it's called 060 K2561-01630 JOINT AXIAL BALL

Yes - that's the photo. And sounds like an easy fix.
