Please post some pics as you progress if you can. Us 2310 owners would like to know! BTW, how many hours on yours? What year is it?

No problems, no leaks, as I said did not replace any bearings/ seals, did flush out the axle after disassembly, no significant metal shavings.
600+ hrs to date(GC2300)

I pulled the pinion SAt. It is toast. I am wondering if the axle shaft and diff. assy. can be removed without dropping the housing. There were no big nuggets in the fluid, just a small amount of fine shavings. When I pull the axle I should see more. The pinion gear did not look like it was sheared off, just pushed aside and flattened. Tried to post pics but no luck.

Yes, I saw amkfken's pic of the shaft. Mine is a twin.

m j w ---you might try puling a picture of my pinion and taking it to your dealer along with yours. Ask why yours shouldn't qualify for a free replacement as the M-F rep that authorized mine also admitted that it was a common problem on the GC's and some 1500 series due to soft steel gears at a certain time period!!
Never hurts to ask, doesn't cost the dealer anything!
Don't know the cost of the gear, probably more than $19.95--but wait--etc. etc.etc.

Thanks amkfken. I got everything out and contacted the dealer. The parts are ordered. 10 days to 2 wks. He said he did not know anything about M F replacing those parts but would check. They have a revision on the part #'s , so that tells me that M F is aware. The pinion shaft is $149.20 & the ring gear is $101.72. The bearings all seem o.k. after flushing. I did not drop the MMM or FEL so that made disassembly a lot more trouble than necessary. Live and learn they say. Will post what I find out.

The very least they should do is replace the known defective parts.

Make sure you mention you have a large audience on the internet awaiting their decision. :thumbsup:

When I worked parts there was a lot of revisions. They were very, very few parts that were revised that had any problem. It was like they had some desk jockeys that needed something to do to look busy so they changed the suffix.

amkfken--Question? Did you disassemble the final drive case and outer wheel housing, or just flush?
