I'm familiar with some of your experience but with my L3800 :)

I can't really deliver hay bale to cows on FEL and have another one at the back.

I totally agree with you on HST and there is nothing like this on bigger tractors.

OK...FEL spike only...do you have a heavy implement on the rear...for counter weight??

just a ballast box full of stones which is definitely not enough :(

I feel that L3800 is too light for it no matter what and -20C with wind and snow craning without cab is not a fun business.
For the potential field work i need bigger tractor anyway so I looking how to upgrade to the right size.

Yes, that one.

I don't own, wish I did. Comes recommended by another TBN member. I think that it converts with reasonable ease...but not having seen it, am unable to provide details.

I guess there is a dilemma here.
For field/general work bigger (to some extend) is better but for cleaning something like MHarryE has with HST (L5740) is better.
I'm not sure that I can get two instead of my one little L3800 :)

I have similar requirements as you and I looked hard at the Kubota line but it didn't have the features I wanted.

After driving a John Deere 5085M 32f/16r with power shuttle and electronic Hi/Lo, I knew I wanted those features. They are great features if you are running haying/baling or ground engagement equipment. You always have the right gear for the job. After you buy a tractor nothing is worse than going round and round wishing for different gearing.

In conjunction with the gearing, getting a tractor with with a 540/750/1000 PTO lets you refine that even further. In light cutting duties you can save fuel by running the PTO at 750 and if you really want to see the snow fly, get a 1000rpm snow blower. Also it opens up what used equipment you can purchase because you can pretty much run anything.

IMHO every tractor made should be equipped with electronic hi/lo, it's that handy. I set my gearing to run in the hi mode and should it start to bog down a little a simple press of the button and you just keep going.

I ended up with an LS because it had all the features I wanted at a good price. It has power shuttle, 40f/20r speeds, electronic hi/lo, 540/750/1000 PTO and came standard with 3 remotes and it is still a tier 3 engine. I got the Buddy seat and refrigerator/warmer and it's been problem free since I bought it last year.

The only down side so far is putting anything other than water in the fridge, too much bouncing. Just don't open a soda in the cab but can be quite entertaining offering up a cold one to your neighbor!

Good luck in your search.

Dave

My family has a few farms but the one I was closest too we is 275 acres. it was and is farmed with a International 886, international 684 with loader, farmall super c, kubota m7040 2wd, and some small john deere. If I could only have one tractor for the property it would be a John Deere 5085m. That is a very good size. But with a 100 acres I would go with a 5075m or something that size. The Ls7030 is a good tractor as is the Case 75c. Don't be brand loyal have an open mind and good luck

Guess it all comes down to how much you value the speed with which you can do field work with a larger tractor versus all the other times, daily, that you use the tractor.

The L5740 is certainly a very capable tractor and the HST+ is a significant functional enhancement over the previous HST function and maintains the wide "gearing" range that HST offers.
