Tractor Newbie

Hey Everyone, just signed up...looking for a tractor to work 10 acres of horse pasture (no hay production - but I gotta move hay I get from my neighbor). I'm also doing pipe fencing around the acreage so I need something (with a grapple??) that can handle moving 30' joints of 2-7/8 oil field tubing.

Mahindra makes some awesome tractors. For round bales and pipe hauling I would recommend a 3016 or 3616. I wouldn't buy a backhoe grapple as a trailer would be cheaper and often easier and you can get a set of pallet forks and move that pipe easily. The 3616 comes standard with a quick attach bucket that makes changing over from forks to a bucket just a matter of pulling two levers.

Any of the major brands will do you a good job! I would look in something in the 25 to 40ish hp range. Find which ever one feels right to you. Maybe rent diffrent ones first to try out. The dealer that has good service is also VERY IMPORTANT!! I have a great dealer and I own and use several Kabota's Mine is a L3540 :thumbsup: Love the hst!

Well Everyone, thanks for your "welcomes" and advice! Today I bought my first tractor!! Under the "go big or go home" file I bought a Mahindra 7520 4x4 with quick attach bucket (~1200 hrs). I'm really pleased with it, very little wear and tear, no dents in the bucket, no leaks in the engine, brand new tires.

Now I'll be able to move pipe, giant tree stumps that my wife won't let me chain-saw up ("they make perfect jumps for our horses") and large round bales without fear of over exerting the machine. That was one of my biggest fears being a tractor newbie...over extending what the machine can do and tipping it on myself. Also, being 6'4" I like the fact that I "fit" in the seat. Should be delivered next weekend. Seller is polishing it up and putting a canopy on it before delivery.

I'll provide some updates when I've had the chance to use it for a bit.
